These are great value for money. TBH I should have kept mine ; they offer 205 performance and more but with fuel economy, creature comforts and oddly, some safety.
Mine used to do about 40MPG on a run. A 1.6 Focus I had could barely match that and the KA I had years before stood no chance despite me religiously sticking to 70mph on the motorway.
But I am a strange one with MPG ; the M3 gets around 24-30MPG normally, with me seeing 33 when driving through France.

It's good to read your blogs! However, I was left wondering why you didn't access the speedo sensor from underneath the car. It might have been easier. Access is pretty curse word above the engine I admit! Regarding the boot leak it's a very common fault. The boot seal will be fine. The tiny bungs that the boot stops rest on when the boot is shut won't be. Don't mess around here. Just go to Renault or call Wests/Fish Brothers up who do deal with the Clio Sport Club and buy two new bungs ; they are £1 each so hardly breaking the bank. With mine I put a very thin layer of rubber putty on the inner circumference to ensure that they sealed for good. This way if the stops do fail again at least you can take them off again and replace them which would be a pain in the bum with silicone. My bootwell was wet too and the car began to stink of damp. It stopped completely with just these two bungs being changed as above.

Cheers, we didn't access the sender from below as the ground was soaking and cold - I'm getting soft in my old age! I think those bungs and a new boot seal will be planned. The car wash revealed a likely leak from the boot seal - you Can see the trail above

I have much the same job to do on a 1.4 mk3 Astra, only I'll be changing the box and not the engine. Also equally as slow
