Alfa Romeos..........the ones that are under the radar?

The 166 is definitely the ultimate under the radar Alfa Romeo. We've got one which my girlfriend uses daily, and it's bloody lovely! 2.5 Busso V6, really responsive Sportronic box which is as good in traffic jams as it is in manual mode at the redline. The interior is a joy to be in, and the standard handling and grip levels are superb. It's even been completely reliable too.
No cupholders, and an integrated stereo (which only ever had a tape player headunit right up to the very last 2007 models) are the only downfalls I can find. CD changer as standard in the boot though, so not all bad there.



As for 155s, I've had a few...

2.0 16v TS was great, super revvy, not quite as quick as a V6, but miles better than the average 2.0 16v cars of the day. Belts are expensive on them though.


2.5 V6 widebody was my favourite all rounder probably. I did 50k+ miles in a couple of years in this one, including a 9:46 at the Ring.
Added the Silverstone spoiler and splitter (a must I think for any 155!), lowered it, and Fiat Coupe 20v hubs and Brembos.
I had it remapped, and a straight through made up for it. Sounded way better then most off the shelf systems which can be a bit raspy I think.... in fact to this day it's still one of my fave sounding cars ever.


Also had a Skinny 2.5 V6, which is my body style of choice.... but this example wasn't quite as great as I'd hoped. And it was eclipsed by my other V6 and Q4 at the time, so never got the love it deserved. It was super low at the front though due to non V6 lowering springs being used!


Present day, I've now got a Q4 (Cloverleaf 4). Basically a Delta Integrale Evo's full AWD running gear in a 155.
It's a bit of a turbo headache, and has been forever plagued with expensive problems, but when its going, it's amazing. It might be half a Lancia, but it is by far the true bipolar Alfa Romeo experience!
