I`m guessing some of you guys on here have been through this process?
What are the dos and don't`s for declaring an engine swap and changing the V5?
Can you declare an engine swap with the insurer and go through the agreed value malarky without actually changing the V5?
How does the whole Engineers report thing work? Any 3rd party inspection required?
Advice much appreciated.
Cheers
Paul

It depends what engine swap you're on about.
Upgrading to a bigger engine, you let dvla and insurance know and everything gets adjusted price wise.
Downgrading to a smaller engine you need a receipt of sale, and a professional is meant to fit it, as the dvla want a bit more proof that you're not trying to pull the wool over their eyes.
Search direct.gov.uk its all on there somewhere..

Oh, and the V5 will always need amending, unless you swap for an identical engine..

Just a practical point when dealing with the DVLA on something like this, if you don't like the first answer you get ask the question until you get the answer you want. They don't seem to keep records on requests to change things like this so if you get a letter back rejecting the change request, or asking for more information, just send another letter and repeat until you get the confirmation.

I havent notified dvla of my engine swap, namely because its the same cc and basic block casting, but a newer head design.
in fact when a vic was done on the old shell it wasn't questioned at all, the engine number was not accessible nor did they even notice it wasn't the original motor!
it is of course insured appropriately.

Thanks for the info gents.
If I read the DVLA info correct then doesn't like a big deal.
-Report on headed paper from a garage confirming the conversion. -Engine number -Fill out changes on the V5C and sent to DVLA with the report.
Anyone done it recently?

you don't need a garage report if its a like for like engine, just add a note stating it is of the same type and CC as the original.

1.8 k series in a mini clubman.
Sent the v5 with new engine number and size, and a receipt of engine purchase, job done.
As said, if it gets rejected etc, just send it back. Another person will deal with it and sort it.

Anyone done it recently? Yep untold times, i just knock up a headed recipt (MS publisher) and send it off with the V5, saves all that getting it sent back and time waisting reposting and hoping the next DVLA employee wont ask/send it back again.
