Yes i know there's a thread running on cheap cars to insure already but thats not what i'm asking and don't want to interrupt.
I've just bought a mk2 escort and it would be awesome if i could insure it and use it on the road as and when i like instead of being confined to a boring van.
Its a beige 1979 1.3 gl, or it was, It currently has a full cage, suspension and steering work and the plan will be to drop a 2.0 duratec into it on itb's (has no engine or box atm), I'm 19 with 1 year ncd so that makes me a chav in a saxo blaring 'Tunes' in a tesco's car park so i didn't know what the likelihood would be of me getting insured on it is, I could insure it relatively cheap if i don't declare any mods but i'm not stupid, i would want to declare all/the majority of the modifications and not pay £4k.
If you might know anybody that would be vaguely sensible that would be awesome.
Cheers

Try Adrian Flux.
Our 1979 Mini Clubman (1.8 k series, metro subframe, dolomite alloys, roll cage, buckets, harnesses, deseamed, etc), was cheaper to insure modified than bog stock.

Also try Peter James. I can't sing their praises enough (though no connection). Every time I ring I get the impression they're about 10 people in an office, not a call centre or anything. It cost me about £230 a year for both my Capri and xr4x4, both modified. Peter James is the guy who started footman james, but got curse word off by being pushed around by underwriters when they got large, so sold up and started a smaller, more specialist company - they won't even touch anything younger than 20 yrs unless it's a special case like landies etc. HTH Jake

I have my MK2 Golf Gti through Adrian Flux.
Had problems with `Classic` insurance as the people I spoke to prohibited any commuting and I wanted to use it occasionally in the summer for the short run to work.
Adrian Flux insured it on a `normal` policy with limited miles for about £180, but I was born in the 70s.....
Plan to get an agreed value on it this year as its had a lot of surgery so will be declaring all mods, engine swap etc. so will have to see how reasonable the insurance is this time around.

I have to be 30 for Peter James annoyingly. Just ring flux and it came out to just over £2k with every mod declared even duratec and roll cage etc..., for me that's pretty good and will probably go for it once it's up and ready. Cheers guys

Cool. Sounds a good price for spec and age.
Try adding your dad etc as a 2nd driver, you as main driver still.
Owning the car a few years and of course ncb helps massively.
Only ever had problems with cheap insurance, changes / cancellations costing loads.
Premium policies seem to have much better flexible cover, ie with Adrian flux, we can just phone up and add items at no extra cost.

Try greenlight insurance. I have both my cars with them guys, the 205 on a modified classic policy and the roadster on performance policy. They're a great bunch of people to deal with. I'm 28 and pay less than 600 for both of them combined

I use classic line in hinckley, I've always had great service and keen pricing though I do have a few years on you. I moved to them from Adrian flux who got expensive.

Adrian Flux are expensive but they do younger drivers, apart from that wait a few years then Peter Best, Peter James, Greenlight, Sky etc. I make sure I have commuting on my 'modifieds' and never had to pay too much extra for that. Also, I've never claimed so can't vouch for any of their after-claims service!

Last time my 309 was insured I think it was through these www.heritagecarinsurance.co.uk/With the cage and suspension etc and they were fine about it. It went on a classic policy. I'm not sure if there are age restrictions on those policies though

The easiest way to find out is to use the phone as just because one person uses a certain company doesn't mean they will cover you.
