Quick summary at the bottom of ad if you just want to know the basics but I advise you read the full ad!
I am selling this car on behalf of my good friend.
Here is my little Rover 25 GTi. The Last EVER sporting car to have the Rover name.
I bet a lot of you reading this didn't even know of the 25 GTi? Well here is a bit of info on them.
They were only made for about 2 years and only 1300 were sold, this is one of under 300 or so left. They stopped making them because they introduced the MG ZR and in my opinion these are much nicer due to the lack of the slightly tacky look of the ZR, the R25GTi is much more discreet.
The differences from a normal Rover 25 are as follows:
- Black Grill,
- Fully colour coded bumpers and rear spoiler,
- 16 inch 'Hairpin' alloys,
- Stiffer uprated suspension,
- Disc brakes all round,
- Half Leather interior with carbon dash trim, leather steering wheel
- and of course that fantastic Rover 1.8 VVC engine!
That engine is a peach, 143bhp approx all tied up in a little car that doesn't look any different to Granddad's shopping car to those that don't know, and many don't!
The steering is sharp and responsive and with that fantastic engine it makes for a rather involved and spirited drive, a real enthusiast's car.
A true wolf in sheep's clothing!
This car was registered 01/09/2000.
The Mechanicals and the Drive.
Starts on the button every time.
Drives with zero knocks, wobbles or creaks.
It failed its MOT in October but only on emissions and the handbrake. New cable sorted the handbrake and a Bosch Lambda Sensor got the emissions to the correct level. New spark plugs and silicone HT leads fitted at the same time. Engine performs superbly with great response and 40+mpg too.
It obviously has an MOT now and only advisories were on tyres. MOT until 10th November 2015.
Oil and filter changed in August at around 83k. Coolant changed with some of the hoses as they looked old around Aug/Sept too.
Car has a Janspeed Stainless Steel Exhaust, a quality and subtle system, not loud at all, fitted recently with uprated exhaust mounts.
It is lowered on Apex 35mm lowering springs currently, but can supply the original springs and struts with the car if you wish for extra. Standard, the arch gap is way too high on these!
This car shows absolutely no sign of overheating or head gasket failure. Cam cover gasket replaced in Aug/Sept so we saw inside the head and it was all completely clean.
All dash lights work and none stay on.
All the forward gears engage smoothly and there are no whines or crunches.
Reverse can be a little difficult to fully engage and if you don't get it right it will clash but as long as you are aware of that then it is not an issue whatsoever. It doesn't pop out of any gear or anything like that.
These cars are a blast to drive and this one is as sharp as it should be! Even more so actually due to the uprated springs.
The Bodywork.
Overall the car looks great as I'm sure you'll agree.
It is a 14 year old car so is not blemish free with the typical little marks around it.
Surprisingly free of stone chips or scratches though.
The rear spoiler had lacquer peel but I've fitted a good MGZR rear spoiler.
The rear driver's arch had a very slight scratch on the lip and the rear bumper was a mess on that corner too but I've fitted an excellent condition ZR rear bumper. The lower body kit piece on the rear bumper can be removed easily for the standard look.
The driver's front arch lip does however have some bubbling, a common issue for the front arches to bubble on these, the passenger lip is fine.
It has it's original wheels but the tyres NEED replacing, they are old and low on tread, one has a slow puncture but perfectly safe to drive on, just needs inflating regularly. I would personally recommend just buying another set of alloys with better tyres and selling on what the car currently has.
The one front fog light is damaged (but works), a replacement is supplied if I haven’t fitted in time for collection.
No sign of any accident damage, new or old.
Underneath the car is nice and straight too, no sign of any nastiness or welding having been done etc.
The Interior.
Original interior, half black leather seats. All good except for the typical wear to the driver's bolster, also there is a cut in the side of the squab. The original leather gearknob is very worn also.
The car has a period correct Philips CD player installed. No nasty holes cut out for stupid speakers, clean parcel shelf and what have you which is good to see.
The car has a set of floor mats in it and appears to always have as the carpets are in nice condition.
Electric windows and mirrors, remote locking (with 2 sets of keys and fobs), alarm and immobiliser all work fine.
Car has AC which works but is not cold. Speed 1 and 2 on the heater fan don't seem to work but 3 and 4 do.
The cable to tilt the driver's seat forward has snapped so rear passengers have to get in via the passenger side which is no heartache.
Summary.
- 86,000 miles only,
- Mot until 10th November 2015,
- Runs and drives superbly,
- Loads of recent work, ready to go.
- Stainless steel exhaust.
- Rare, original and different!
The Deal.
£800ono.
Cash only, no swaps or P/Xs.
The car is located in the City of Hereford.
Any questions then please ask.
