Hi guys,
I need to remove my high pressure fuel pump to get it tested from my 2002 Vito, as I have been told that this is leaking. The Van is the 2.2 litre turbo diesel (model 112cd). Does anyone have a guide or any information for me on how is best to remove this.

Sorry only just seen this if its a common rail cdi version then the high pressure pump is only held on by 3 nuts or 2 nuts and 1 bolt the drive from the engine is loose fit dog that can fall off if your not careful the best way to remove the pump is unbolt it and then slightly lower the front of the pump down as you remove it and the dog should stay on the shaft when you refit the pump a blob of grease on the shaft helps to hold it in place.
Why do you think its the pump leaking have you got a diesel leak or poor starting as there are more common things to check first if you have starting issues if its a fuel leak you have its a good idea to check the 2 o rings that the feed and return on the pump they quite often go flat and hard and can cause a weep of diesel if its one of the 3 plunger caps leaking on the pump then its best to remove the pump and have it checked for warped top cap.

Thanks vtecpower that is a great help. When I am starting the van it will always start first time but sometimes it will stall, if this happens it is a pain to start again then. There is definatley a leak too as you can smell and see the deisel on the floor.
I was told by someone in a garage that it was the pump but I don't think they removed it as there were not able to repair it if this was the case, so they just left it on. Where are the o rings you talk of? Are they on the ends of connectors that attached onto the pump?

I have a CDi in at the moe, pump is real easy to change (swapped in a S/H one a month ago, took about 20 mins but that is RWD so clearance is easyer) but for the stalling after a start i would change the O rings in the return pipes (£11 off ebay) or very carefully inspect the return pipes, especially the 2 that run under the pump, if thier clamp is missing or broken the vibrate and fracture, causing a pin hole that will leak fual and suck in air that causes the stalling, when really bad it will stall every few seconds and be undrivable, the older the pipes the more likely they are to be hardened and split, especialy if your messing with the pump. If you can with a mirror check the 3 heads of the pump for leaks at the join to the main body, some will be painted so you cant see the join early pumps are not painted and rust gets in and causes the head seal to leak.
