Hi folks, just a general query really. Are Lucas Gold coils any good? I've seen a few on egay, like this one: cgi.ebay.co.uk/LUCAS-SPORTS-COIL_W0QQitemZ260121683829I've thought of getting one as an alternative replacement for my micras coil. There is nothing wrong with the one which is fitted, its just as I'm replacing cap, arm, plugs and HT leads with shiny new ones- so thought this could be an option if mine was to give up? If its only suited to older motors then i'll leave it, was just intreagued thats all Ta

a coil is prettymuch a coil. Check the voltage requirements of your ignition and the voltage capacity of the coil. ALso check the resistance of the coil and the resistance requirements of the ignition system.
Back in the day they were all pretty much interchangeable when everything ran breaker points - tricks like running a ballasted coil without the resistor on an unballasted igntion system were supposed to yeild a hotter spark but no idea if they did.
I used to have a couple of really cool Lucas Sport Coils with the "robotic" writing from the early 80s. Wish I'd kept them just because they looked cool.
When people started getting into EFI and electronic transister ignitions then the coils become more specific to the vehicle.
Fitting a "hotter" coil is not a performance mod. You may neeed a "hotter" coil on a tuned engine but just doing the coil on its own is going to do nothing unless your current one isn't up to the job
