Why don't people just tax at the post office & be done with it? All this on-line sh1t does my head in. When all the Post Offices are closed (They close one every week) we will all be worse off, but if you don't use it you lose it. Because, to tax my car at the post office, I have to drive past two that don't do car tax. Find a parking space. Pay for parking. Then queue in the post office queue. Doing it online I can tax it whilst making a bacon sarnie, where is the downside?!

What absolute drivel, it takes 5 minutes out of your day, I've NEVER taxed a car on line & don't spend half my day in the post office, it's just new age idleness, nothing more

You missed that bit out.

No ones asking you to make a special journey, you get 3 weeks to tax a car (as a rule, when you renew) & your telling me you never pass a PO in all that time, it's cobblers. I'm all for new technology etc, but everyone managed it before on line was available & my point is everyone will bleet when they are all gone.

Sorry, I'm not in GB but sit watching various websites in wonder at how things work back home... And this is one of them.
Anyway, let's get this straight: Does everyone have to reapply for tax every year when the old tax runs out? Do you have to a) wander down to the Post Office (one that does tax rather than one of the many that don't) or b) fire up your computer and log on to the DVLC website and type in long strings of meaningless numbers to get your car legal again?
Isn't it automatic, the old tax running out, DVLC taking quids from your bank account and the new tax starting all by itself?

I wonder how much extra revenue the DVLA are collecting now due to the new rules? Take my example.
I purchased a used car on 5th Jan. The car was MOT'd and taxed. The owner couldn't sell the tax with the car, so had to cancel it. DVLA only refund complete months so he won't be refunded for January. I had to tax the car from that day, so DVLA receive revenue twice for the same month.
Fair or just designed to gain them (or the tresury)more monies?
