what size tyre should I put on the cortina ghia alloy? I need four Summer tyres, (they will be replaced in sep/oct from 'sports' steels and winter tyres) - standard for the cortina ghia is 185/70 or 65?/ 13 and as the 2.3 has power steering, and Iam intending to run standard springs, I am debating the pros and cons of width and profile any thoughts?

If you're not lowering it then I think I'd stick with the standard size.

go with the 185/65 option as it won't look so balloony the 70's look like van tires

185/60... Ford and Vauxhall used these as "interchangeable" sizes optionally on their cars back inthe day as a extra cost option. Can't have messed with the speedo grearing too much so should maintain about the same profile with a little more rubber. I've run 185/60s in place of 165R13, 175/70 and the like.

sorry, did you mean standard or something different? i was thinking about the wider subject, and wondering about other alternastives to standard e.g. - would a 205/60/13 be too wide for the standard alloy?

I have run a 195/50x13 on a standard steelie designed to take a 5.20x13 crossply (or a 165R133 radial) and that worked well.

what size tyre should I put on the cortina ghia alloy? I'm sorry - I'm not sure I can help you with the question, but I do love the advert - "Ford have restyled the saloon body shape with bigger windows and slim pillars to give even greater visibility" How times change: If only they had the same engineers today - modern cars are all pillar and no window - all in the name of 'safety'!

talking of which theres apparently some government review going on into A pillar design as thick pillars on modern cars are reckoned by some research to account for some percent of all accidents at junctions becauseof the blind spot they create.
