I wasn't expecting a simtek, motec, gems or anything like that. What i was expecting was a map suited the mods when actually fitted to your car. After years of rallying imprezas and modifying them for customers i can confidently tell you that unless you get that car mapped properly it is not running at its best and is likely to cause detonation eventually. Thanks for your reply. If you want a gems ecu i have a used one in stock that will fit your car, it can be mapped by us and has anti lag and launch control built in to it.

I respect your opinion but the map is suited to the mods as I said. It may be generic but it is mapped to 440s, TD05, fmic & a full decat. This map was absolutely fine on another identical engine with exactly the same mods for over 10 years on an import. As you are a trader, and obviously plugging your own business, please start your own thread. Thousands of Impreza owners have used generic chipped ECUs for 20 years now without any problems, for example Scoobyecu & Polar Performance chips. In my opinion 95% of the engine failures are from a lack of servicing as kids just thrash them & don't change the oil every 3000 miles as they should, don't do coolant changes or fit new timing kits e.t.c. Let's not also forget the engines are 15-20 years old now as well with 100k on the clock so there will be the odd issue as with any old car.
Alternatively if you really are genuinely interested in my car then you'd buy it & fit your own Gems ecu.

I'm not interested in your car to use, i was interested in buying it and using the engine in a customers road car as a cheap way of getting him back on the road after a similar story of mods and not a proper remap. I don't have to promote my business as you suggest. You know nothing about me or my business, which incidentally isn't exclusively aimed at subarus, my 20 plus years in business promote themselves, as do my returning customers. I merely asked initially for the mapper, as it turns out it isn't mapped its just second guessed that its ok. Good luck with the sale and may i suggest that as well as using V Power you also add a bottle of octane booster to each tank full of fuel as a safety margin when its on full boost. I didn't mean to offend or criticise your car i was merely asking for my own piece of mind before maybe buying the car to break. I will look elsewhere for my customers next engine. Thank you

Let's agree to disagree. I'm not having a go as we both have a lot of experience with these cars then, but you believe one thing & I believe another which is fine. I just spent months doing the upgrades on this car so will obviously get a little defensive when you came straight on stereo-typing all chips as rubbish. An individual map to a car with an aftermarket ecu will be much more finely tuned as you say but to do this costs nearly £1k alone, I'm only asking £1.6k for the whole car so one of these ECUs will not be fitted to it or I'd be asking for £2.5k.
I have faith in some generic chips as long as I know where they have come from. If it was an unnamed chip from Ebay then I wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole. The early pre '97 Imprezas I think are more tolerant as well as they can only run to 1.2 bar boost before the ecu safety kicks in with fuel cut whereas the post '97 are much higher at 1.7 bar & by then the damage is probably done if there is a problem. So many factors are in play, what year Impreza your customer had, what chip was fitted, was it regularly serviced, was the chip to blame in the first place for any failure?
I speak from experience as I used a Polar Performance generic chip in the Impreza I had before this one, '95 555 V-ltd, & I ran it for 8 years & covered over 40k miles, that cannot be 'second-guessing' in my book. The engine never missed a beat apart from the odd coil pack cracking at the end or a sensor failing. The only thing I would change with my car for sale above are the spark plugs to be honest. I fitted new NGK PFR6Bs & should have fitted some colder PFR7Bs instead but they are running perfectly at the moment so haven't changed them.
If you are still interested in the car, or the engine, I have only just fitted all these mods inc the ecu & it's barely done 5 miles since then (currently sorned so only driven off-road at the moment). It did just have an idle issue due to an intake gasket leak & weak spring in the Bailey DV. Now fixed with genuine intake gaskets & a Forge VTA DV with blue spring.
