I've found my next dream car. I have pined after another XJ6 every since selling my MK2, such a beaturiful looking and driving car, but I just didn't have the space for it and couldn't afford the fuel or the engine maintenance. I swore I would love another but one with preferably a late model 6 on gas. Most converted Jags over here run a V8 but I loved the sound of the old original twin-overhead cam 6 and would love to be able to replicate it with a modern BMW etc. 6.
I am selling my Amazon to make space for a new weekender and came across a Mk7 Jag with a Ford Falcon 6 (I am guessing 1980's engine, will have to investigate further) running straight gas, with aircon. Looks solid from the photos, engine is close enough to what I wanted, love everything about the style of the car, I know if I go and see it I will be suckered into buying it unless it is an absolute basketcase.
Aside from rust issues what problems are likely to arise in a mk7? I'm guessing wiring will be very sketchy if it hasn't been replaced when the engine was (I have seen looms fall to pieces on early '70s Jags), I'm guessing being an earlier model the Mk7 doesn't suffer the hideously expensive to repair inboard brakes and independent suspension package of teh XJ6s, are there cost/parts access issues for any of the mechanical bits on these?
I really should be getting a wagon or ute for practicality, but this is just soo damn cool and right up my want list:
