A legendary Mk1 VW Golf GTi with complete history file and 91,208 miles.
EQUIPMENT
Halogen headlamps, rear window with black surround, wider wheel arches with plastic bead, ‘GTi’ badges on radiator and tailgate, laminated windscreen, twin adjustable door mirrors, rear wash-wipe, red trim around radiator grille, large front spoiler, side stripes, revolution counter, digital clock, black leatherette headlining, multi-function digital computer, fuel economy gauge, twin tone horn, front door pockets, trip mileage recorder. Factory options; steel sliding roof, tinted glass. Dealer Options; Panasonic 583 stereo, 2 speakers, electric aerial, Hella twin lamp conversion.
EXTERIOR
This iconic MK1 Golf GTi is finished in Alpine White (Code L90E) and maintains a bright shine and uniform finish. The factory panels have excellent fit and uniform gaps, and only a small ding to the nearside door is worthy of mention. The rubbers, side mouldings, lights and all other body trimmings are intact and in good order aside from one small scuff to the front nearside plastic arch bead. The original factory optional tinted glass is security etched and displays a Volkswagen main dealer tax disc holder and screen sticker along with dealer number plates. The black rear window surround and side stripes show signs of aging and the sunroof has some markings. The identification sticker on the boot cross member is present and the engine compartment displays the correct factory stickers. This genuine original GTi embodies everything that made this iconic car the trend setting legend that it is.
INTERIOR
The original body-hugging reclining sports seats finished in black/white large check design (code KM) are in remarkable condition and match the black leatherette headlining, carpeting and door cards. Very light thinning to the material on the driver’s outer bolster is noticeable. All functions and controls operate well, although the MFA LCD display is distorted. The original dealer fit stereo and speakers remain fitted and maintain the classic ‘80’s touch! Additional VDO gauges are housed in the original centre console and consist of ammeter, oil temperature and oil pressure. A small undulation to the dash top is visiable. A classic 1980’s hot hatch interior, endless fun and hugely nostalgic.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This cult-setting car is in excellent mechanical order and really asserts what early GTi ownership should be about - tremendous fun! The engine produces 110bhp at 6100rpm and 140Nm of torque at 5000rpm, enough to sprint to 60mph in 8.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 112mph. The seemingly endlessly willing engine and that addictive exhaust note are guaranteed to excite the occupants and a smile on your face is a permanent fixture! The 5 speed sports gearbox is precise and is a joy to use. This Golf is exactly how the manufacturer intended, brilliant.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Fitted with the factory standard alloy sports wheels, the tyres are quality Pirelli Cinturato P4 175/70 R13 all round with excellent tread remaining. Faint markings to the outer rims are detectable. The servo-assisted diagonally divided dual-circuit braking system with 9.4in internally ventilated discs in front and 7.1in drums at rear do an excellent job of stopping the car.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Volkswagen Main Dealers Walter Scott Motors of London on the 1st February 1983, an original new car sales invoice outlines a purchase price of £7.346.39 on the road. The colossal file is quite incredible and incorporates countless invoices and receipts from the supplying dealer, other main agents and specialists to offer a full and complete service record for the 91,208 miles covered.
The original VW Dealer blue document holder is also with the car and contains all the owner’s manuals and instruction pamphlets. Even the original mounting instruction booklet for the upgrade twin lamp grille is included! The factory single lamp grille comes with the car and offers a choice for the next keeper. A very useable classic Golf GTi, the epitome of the hot hatch phenomenon.
MOT July 2015, HPI Clear, Approved Used Car Certificate.
