One of our older rides, owned it since new. This was circa Apr 2012 just after a good tidy up, ready for my lad to learn to drive in and he took his test in it, passed 1st time. He used it for a while, piled the miles on, got fed up with everyone asking if it was his Grandad's car, went out and bought an MGZR and gave me the Rover back. Then it was my daughters turn to drive and just as my lad did, took her test in it, passed 1s time. She uses it occasionally and is getting fed up of everyone asking if it was her Grandads car. Grandad drove a Jag.
The lacquer has started to fall offit big time, roof is really bad now (original paint) and bonnet, front wings (painted at 1yearold under warranty due to excessive stone chips)
Friend of ours ( none petrol head ) suggested we threw it away !!!!!!

Crikey another R8. Nice to see another on here. And good that your children passed their tests in her. What's the background on her? Mileage ect? I have one in Nightfire red. I see it's a 214 so any head gasket issues? Luckily I have the Honda engine in mine.

We are on about 180k. The original headgasket was replaced at about 18 months old, leak from the coolant pipe, got a bit low and nipped it. The gasket that was fitted then is still on it now, 20 years later. The rad disintegrated in 2013 and I had a nearly new unit from down scrapyard In my spares, in a rush, and because the fan switch was stuck in, I fitted the scrapyard rad inc fan, the fan was seized and blew the fuse, got warm enough just to nip the gasket, small trace of oil in coolant, I have been periodically cleaning the exp tank out, too many other big car jobs to do.
Original clutch went at about 160k and then the gearbox at about 170k, bearings I predict, I just nipped down the scrapyard and took a box out of an 02 plate R25, sweet as a nut.
It was a good learner driver car, good visibility, light steering, light clutch, clearly did the job.

Good cars and good engines as long as you keep on top of coolant levels (like a once a week check, like what you are supposed to do.... which is beyond the ken of many nowadays...). As long as the body holds together keep it, I think ZS running gear will fit without too much drama...

That looks mint, nice on the hairpins, are they 16inch off an MGZR, what size tyres do you run on them
You are right with the K Series engines, keep a very close eye on coolant. I have owned a number of Dolomite Sprints since I had my first at 17, two things you learn to watch like a hawk are coolant level and temp guage.

I have fond driving experiences driving a white 216GTI around Swinderby Airfield when I was 15, after driving dads Hi-Lux and a 1l Uno it was like a scalded cat and the first time I felt 7k RPM
Lead me to own quite a few Rovers since, yet the R8 still evades me but I hanker for the Coupe or 220GTI
