I vaguely remeber there being a law about which side your reversing or fog lamp had to be on depending on the age of your car, 70's or so. Anyone shed any light on this?
Planning to fit a small reversing lamp and fog lamp just below the rear bumper of the Mini
Thanks!

Dunno about reversing lamps, but AFAIK a single aftermarket rear fog should be fitted on the offside.

pre 1980 you don't need one
uk market cars need fog lamp on drivers side
you can have one either side and if ya got two they both get tested and need to work for mot
reverse light goes on left if ya only got one fog usually

I believe reverse lights are still a luxury... foglights, as the man above says. [edit: the man above would have been Brian, but either does ]

Don't know about the fog lamp, but reversing lights are not a requirement. Even if they are fitted they don't have to work

Does the reverse light have to have a red lens? I'm trying to work out how to hide one on my debumpered manta. If I stuck it in the OS reverse light would I have to tint the lens red?

Just because your car didn't come with it is no reason not to add something - might make all the difference one day Myself, I quite like being able to drive properly in heavy fog without being invisible to other numpty drivers, letting others know I'm backing up, not being propelled through the windscreen or hit by my passengers and making my manevuers properly visible!

i wouldnt do without either on an everyday car once went about 6 months without reverse lights and when i did change the bulb i couldnt believe what i was missing , fun car different story less likely to need fog light as i expect i wouldnt drive such a car in that sort of weather i would hate to see a mini on the m way without a fog light in bad fog id be thinking of the poor driver who didnt see it

uk market cars need fog lamp on drivers side you can have one either side and if ya got two they both get tested and need to work for mot I think they only test the O/S fog lamp. I know Volvos (probably others too) come from the factory wired for both but only have a bulb in the O/S light.
