M5 replica alloys
Air con nice and cold and heaters are tremendous
10 months mot. Only advisory a rear tyre.
All electrics work as they should
No missing pixels on dash
Like any 15 year old motor there are a few niggles.
Temp reading - 40. This is because I caught front underside on a high kerb and it's knocked the temp sensor and plastic liner in the wheel arch.
Sometimes but not all the time the Secondary air pump is noisier than usual for first 45 seconds when it's completely cold. The air pump is an anti smog device to warm up the cat a bit quicker on start up I believe. Has never caused a problem and it's not actually a horrible noise- sounds like a Harrier jet preparing for takeoff. Saying that I started it yesterday and there was no noise at all.
Has a wheel wobble which I'm told is caused by suspension bushes needing replacement.
Tyres will need changing soon. But are all legal.
Some scratches on passenger window where a bit of grit was trapped between glass and rubber.
Service light is on.
Parking sensors make a long beep. Likely a lone duff sensor
That's it! It's always been reliable, I bought it from the original owners daughter so it's had just 2 owners before me in same family. The cup holders always break on these and I've spent £50 on new ones. Tool kit is full, jack, chock, and warning triangle are there.
The bmw torch is present and working, along with the first aid kit, handbook pack and service book.
I keep my cars very clean and don't have kids in there. If you're after a luxo barge which will touch 30 mpg on a run then it's worth a look.
To summarise if you could get some new bushes, a new set of rubber and a temp sensor this car would be spot on. The secondary air pump doesn't other me as it's 45 seconds and you can't hear it inside the car but it's a common thing on these ( second one I've had that's done it! ) it's probably the comfiest car I've had. But I'm going back to roughing it with using my old Karmann Ghia,so it has to go.
Any questions let me know.
No it's not the hedgehog fuse- heaters and climate control work great. It's the air pump- secondary air pump which sits under the bonnet.
I'm no mechanic but as I understand it warms the cat up on start up so it's cleaner when the engine is cold- pretty sure it's for the American anti smog laws. Passed it's mot on emmissions and if you google E39 Secondary air pump there's loads of threads on forums.
Yes, they are awesome cars. Someone have this Beut off me for sod all money! Quite an uncommon combo too- cloth electric seats with Sienna red paint. The interior really looks 5 years old rather than 15.
If you can't afford a 540i or a 530 and just want a cruising machine- this is for you!
