Thanks for the last 2 replys guys. Looks like I'll probably sell it on as spares or repairs then as they still fetch ok money. And regarding the emissions, I believe if I fit on older engine, the emissions test is done on the age of the engine fitted and not the vehicle age. This is what I am led to believe anyway.

Also if you do get it going i believe vans after 2002 put out alot less emissions so you may never get it to pass an mot when finished. With proof of the engines age it will be emmision tested at which ever is the older, so you should only have to meet the standard the engine you put in would be required to meet.

i wasnt sure on how the emission thing worked with fitting a older type engine i know you cant take older vans into london any more without fitting some kind of filter to the meet the Euro 3 standard due to the lez. so if a conversion was done and tested as an older engine would that mean it wouldnt be aloud to enter the lez zone

What about fitting a petrol engine out of the same type of van and converting to run on LPG ?

But you suggested selling it or getting a transit before anyone had commented asking my question! Are you a bit special?

But you suggested selling it or getting a transit before anyone had commented asking my question! Are you a bit special? I answered you question. It'd be near impossible to retrofit diesel injection gear from another engine. Resorting to name calling, how grown up. If you want to stoop to that, Shows why you are incapable of repairing the original engine..

Hahahaha I can repair it! I just don't want to. My god you are difficult. I have had issues with modern diesels, and so has everyone I've known. This van has well documented common problems, same as the Vauxhall and Renault version. I like an engine thats simple as hell. But clearly you cannot grasp that I only want that. Very odd

Very odd I'm difficult? I'm not the one wanting to ruin a Soddin' vauxhall vivaro or whatever I'm aware of how tragic these vans are. I used to work on them when I worked at Hilsea Nissan before the solent group went bust. So I do actually know what the curse word I'm talking about but you clearly know more than me, because I'm a bit special and difficult. This is the forum spirit I have come to sadly know of retro rides these days. I can't say I didn't bring it on myself somewhat but there hasn't really been a need for your overly childish responses either.

This is where i just throw into the fray that I'm throwing a 7.3L V8 diesel in to my limo, Why??? Well the engine is old enough to be run on veggy oil without too much difficulty. Cheaper than LPG to run on and you get 3000L a year to use before you get taxed on it... just sayin You also have the benefit of making everyone in your wake want chips as you get to smell like a mobile chip shop

Hi, What injector pump has the Ford got? I ask this because I used to have a 6.2L GMC diesel in my Range Rover and I tried that on veg oil a couple of times and it was not happy about it. It had a Stanadyne pump.

It had a Stanadyne pump. Colin I would have to trek up to the workshop to find that out for sure, i found in my old 2.5 landy that throwing a couple of gallon of diesel to every 8 of veg would work ok, in the winter that would increase due to temperatures thickening up the veg, that was obviously a lucas item. I will pop up there tomorrow and find out for you.

Ok, had a little poke around and it's a Stanadyne DB-2 , you can wind the fuel up on these, smokey smokey that may assist on running on veggie with a diesel mix to assist. I have obviously not gotten that far in the project, when I do I will let you know the findings. This is subject to injury letting me carry on with it over the next month or so.

I don't think Stanadyne are the most robust of pumps, more Lucas than Bosch... There should be lots of info on the veg oil forums though.
