An immaculate Ford Fiesta Mk1 XR2 with just 65,040 miles.
EQUIPMENT
Louvred design radiator grille with aerofoil section, aerodynamic front and rear black spoilers, black wheelarch extensions, twin body coloured doors mirrors, special XR2 bodyside decal treatments, extended black window surround paint, storage compartment under rear-floor, laminated windscreen, two speed plus intermittent wipe, tailgate wash/wipe, heated rear window, tachometer, trip recorder, driving lamps, soft feel special steering wheel, perforated ‘Cool Black’ headlining, digital header mounted clock, loadspace carpet, cigar lighter, illuminated interior controls. Factory fitted options include, tilting glass sunroof.
EXTERIOR
This stunning sporting Fiesta is finished in gleaming Ford Black (code A9) and boasts a uniform mirror shine throughout. There is no rust or corrosion on the vehicle whatsoever, and the underside has been detailed to an impeccable show standard. All panels are straight with linear gaps and only a tiny ding to the offside rear arch extension can be seen. The high standard of finish certainly continues to the engine bay, which has received the same car and attention as the rest of the car with many components painstakingly removed and replaced or refurbished, but with all factory stickers and plates remaining untouched. The factory standard trim sections, bumpers and XR2 bodyside decals are perfect, as are the number plate etched glass, lights and badges. The factory fitted sunroof, a £124.72 option from new is completely watertight and as new. A rare vehicle itself, and rarely surpassed in this condition.
INTERIOR
The interior in this remarkable example is factory fresh, remaining in beautiful original condition and exactly as Ford intended. The ‘Storm’ and Crushed Velour interior in Shark Grey environment colour (code KW) is immaculate and free from tears, rips or discolouration, although the driver’s seat base material is slightly loose. The Shark Grey loop pile carpet is spotless having been protected by Ford floor mats, and the Grey Mylar sidewall and rear quarter finishers are pristine. All switchgear is functional and intact, and the soft finish dashboard with red surround is perfect. The original push button stereo remains and even the aerial puller key is on the keyring! The original trimmed parcel shelf is intact, straight and complete with the correct rubber hangers. A delightfully period unspoilt interior, reminiscent of the 1980’s hot hatch phenomenon.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The time proven transverse mounted 1600 OHV engine with Weber twin-venturi carburettor develops an ample 84BHP in such a lightweight and nimble car, achieving a top speed of 105mph and 0-60 in just 9.3 seconds. The standard specification automatic choke and electronic ignition are both present and perfectly balanced. The four speed synchromesh gearbox with remote shift is light and exact, a joy to use. A real ‘smile on your face’ experience.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Special ‘pepperpot’ 13” X 6” alloys wheel with ultra low profile branded 185/60HR13 tyres still adorn the car and are in pristine condition. The spare alloy wheel sits in the spare wheel housing which incorporates the correct ‘bulged’ rear lower valance designed to accommodate the enlarged alloy wheel compared with lower Fiesta models. All tyres retain excellent tread all round. The dual line servo assisted brakes with ventilated 9.4” front discs and 7.0” rear drums bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 23rd September 1983 by Ford Main Dealers Trimoco of Chelmsford, this enthusiast owned example has remained exactly as Ford intended and thankfully avoided the all too common modification trend. A fantastic history file allows to reader to trace the cars 31 years and 65,040 miles with many previous MOT’s, invoices and receipts. The original Ford Service booklet displays 22 service stamps to leave in no doubt the upmost care bestowed upon the car. The original A5 wallet is present and contains every handbook, radio guide, operation guide as well as the additional XR2 owners supplement.
Representing a fantastic element of Ford’s historic sporting pedigree, this hugely collectable model has become increasingly rare in recent years and desirability is rightly high.
HPI Clear, MOT August 2015, Approved Used Car Check Certificate.
