Pistonheads have been running a selections of members £100K garages Format is simple - take an imaginary £100,000 and then select cars (from those for sale in the Pistonheads classifieds) to spend as much as you can of it and post your reasons why you made your choices Now they've been nice and interesting - with a mix of exotica and hum drum but it got me thinking...... Could I do better...... Could I do it for less..... I'm a VFM person so I dropped the budget (and a zero) to what I really could afford - £10,000 Would they even consider publishing it.... Bloody hell they did and they liked it www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=185&i=31282Aim was to get one each of the following V8 Barge Classic Car Convertible Track day toy and a Tip Car (Something you don't care about that is economical in the extreme and absolutely not "High Maintenance") Interested in what I went for click the link - 10 Grand remember - 5 cars

Love it. I saw it on PH before I clocked this thread.
Saw the title and went to myself "nice to see them mix it up a bit"
I see now that was with the help of a little push.
Good work sir. I think a decent 944 is a really good shout for people wanting to dip a toe in "classic" ownership without having (or having the capacity) to deal with rust and carbs and shonky electrics.
I had a model in that exact colour as a kid which makes that one even better in my eyes.

Again, clocked it first and then instantly saw the username, really nice little twist on the formula. I've currently got 4 vehicles with a recently deceased 5th that conform pretty closely with your article with one glaring exception, budget revealed at the bottom.
V8 Barge: 5 Pot AWD Turbo Volvo V70 - Just slipped it's timing but big, comfy, winter and tow friendly Classic Car: '88 Toyota Supra 3.0 Turbo Manual - Fast and relatively reliable although in need of some TLC (not welding thought) Convertible: '83 Mk1 Golf Cabrio - "The roof folds down" - Best thing I can say about it Track day toy: '88 Honda VFR400 Track Bike - Close enough, half the wheels, double the fun. Tip Car: Fiat Punto 1.1 - £250 car plus whatever goes wrong
Total purchase price: £2500, allow another £2500 to get them all working and MOTd and that's quite a decent fleet for the money I'd say.

Good work - glad you liked the article - maybe we could dod a similar thing on here as HW suggested but open up selection criteria

I think £10K for your perfect garage... if that is just one car for everything or 10 £1,000 cars... that is up to you ... we'll also accept modifications within budget.

I can do that from my fleet already - well almost! Not a V8, but for a barge, my 95 Cavalier 2.0 16v auto, best towing car i've ever had (and i've had several Volvos) comfortable, quiet, pokey, utterly reliable and surprisingly good on fuel. Cost me £400 in 2006! Classic car, a 78 Dolomite Sprint auto with 2.2 Omega engine and box, leather int, PAS and lots more. Work in progress ATM but I have 95% of bits to finish. Currently owes me a tad under £1500. Convertible, 2000 Saab 9-3 Vector aero HOT auto convertible, bought on a whim a couple of months ago for a bargain basement £1000. Goes like stink! Trackday toy, 73 Triumph Toledo with Vauxhall Carlton engine, Omega box, Sprint diff, Gaz coilovers, big brake kit, Polybushed and much more. Built for drag racing but have done a couple of trackdays as well and done the hill at 2 RRGs. Owes me somewhere in the region of £2400. Tip car 2001 Astra 2.0 DTi Diesel estate with towbar and roof bars. I gave £300 for it in PX 3 months ago. So there it is, a car for all seasons to a total cost (to date) of £5700!

A Cavalier isn't a "barge". Surely?

A Cavalier isn't a "barge". Surely? I did say well almost! I do also have a Carlton and an Omega but the Carlton is an engineless shell and the Omega is the donor car for the Sprint so I don't count them. If it will make you happy, I'll drop a SBC in the Carlton and still come in under 10K! Steve
