Morning Everyone, I've been driving a '99 BMW 318i Touring for the last few months which is painfully slow! I finally decided I had had enough of it and thought I would buy a 328i donor to swap all the running gear into the Touring. I found a tidy looking example on here for a very small amount of money and on Saturday it arrived at my house. I bought it unseen (apart from a few pictures) and had a Shiply driver collect it for me. When it arrived I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The whole car is very clean and tidy (apart from 2 stone chips above the windscreen which have started to rust) and looks well looked after. I decided it was too tidy to strip for parts, so advertised the Touring for sale instead with the intention of using the 328i as my new daily. I brought it into work today to run it through an MOT and find out what (if anything) is wrong with it. I bought it with no MOT hence it being cheap! The MOT has just been done and all it failed on was the ABS light being on (after plugging the diagnostic computer in it's just an ABS sensor), a bald tyre and the O/S/R brake binding (I could feel something holding on when I drove it in this morning). The work will get done today and I will be driving a nice legal car home this evening Here are a couple of pics that were sent to me. It's curse word it down at the moment so I'm not standing outside taking more. It's a '98 328i Auto Coupe. It's done 129,000 miles, has full leather and electric everything. I ideally wanted a manual 328 so might look at doing a manual conversion at some point in the future, maybe lower it a little and whack a decent set of wheels on it, should smarten it up a little bit Cheers, Sammo

I saw this for sale, looks like a good car, get some better photographs done! For the money that these cost, and the fact there are getting to be less and less of them around. Will be interested in seeing how you get on with the manual swap as that something I would like to do to mine

Yeh the pictures aren't great! I will take some more later today if I get a chance. I have had to put a new battery on the car today and found that the battery tray has a nice hole in it which is annoying but not the end of the world. Apparently the manual swap isn't that difficult it's just finding the time to do it and actually sourcing the parts that will be difficult.

Apparently a manual swap is easy. Bit risky on Shiply's part driving a non road legal car to you

Looks lovely. I had a 328i auto touring a while back, always thought I'd prefer a manual but after a few months with it I grew to really love the auto - suits the M52 engine well for effortless quick driving As an aside, you don't want a set of winter tyres for it do you? I've still got mine from the touring, put them in the for sales last week. Edit: just noticed you're miles away so probably not too handy.

Ok, so the ABS sensor, tyre and seized brakes (caliper was seized) have all been sorted and the car now has 12 months MOT I have already been looking at cheap coilovers on eBay and a variety of wheels that might suit it hehe! If anyone has any wheel suggestions please let me know as I have no idea what to go for yet.

I have picked up a set of Style 22's that need a refurb for £80 Annoyingly when driving the car home the other night one of the rear wheel bearings gave up and the wheel was wobbling all over the place! Bizarrely there was no movement or noise in the bearing during the MOT. Also the steering column started making a horrible squeaking and clunking noise along with a few other little niggly bits that showed themselves Now I'm not sure whether to stick with this plan of using the Coupe or going back to my original plan of using it as a donor for my Touring (which drives perfectly, apart from being the slowest car in the world!)
