I bought this car in the spring of 2009, It took a long while to find the right car as it needed to have ac, cruise and be automatic, but eventually the car was found (and was bought from a woman who had it from new as a company car and then bought it from the company after 3 years as she loved it so much) and it was purchased solely to go on a holiday to Southern Central France, after which time I had planned on selling it on. Things never go quite to plan though do they and the car performed superbly on the holiday and then again on my return while I used it as a daily. I enjoyed it so much and it was so reliable that I kept it for over 18 months odd which for me is unheard of.
Eventually it needed an MOT so I took it in and on my return to collect I was given some bad news, the car had failed its mot and was suffering with the known 9-3 issue of a cracked bulkhead.
Somewhat devastated I drove home and put the car into the garage space underneath my flat whilst I decided how to pay for the repairs. As is often the case the car ended up getting things piled all around it, and effectively I “forgot” about it. Last month I was given notice on the flat so my hand was forced and I took the car to the garage I now use and told them it needed a bulkhead repair and a few other bits and then a new MOT, imagine my surprise when I got a phone call that wasn’t the usual “sssssgonna cost you guv” and in fact it was asking to come down and see for myself the bulkhead was in perfect condition with only a bit of silicone sealant loose !!!!! The car passed the MOT without even an advisory – happy days.
So 4 years of dry storage had been totally unnecessary, but at least I can now move it on to a new owner.
The condition is very good
the hood has a glass rear screen and has no holes – there is a wear mark on it, but that’s about it.
The interior is immaculate, with the leather unripped and all good.
to drive the car goes well and has no untoward noises etc.
No car is perfect and lets be honest here anyone who says theirs is is either fooling themselves or trying to fool the rest of us – and this car is no different.
The roof while very very good does have the wear mark mentioned above
The paint is generally very good, but the n/s rear arch is blistered along its edge and will need attention at some point.
The electric mirrors do not adjust, they never have in the whole time I owned the car – I will try to see why (it could just be a fuse) but no promises.
The air conditioning was icy cold before the car went into storage, this is no longer the case. Probably it just needs regassing, but it may need new seals I simply don’t know, and in December it simply isn’t a priority to get sorted.
I find it best to be totally honest and upfront about all these sort of things, it saves both time and hassle for me and also for any potential buyers.
The car wears a private “S44B TU” plate which as can be seen in the pic that in this case reads very much like Saab Turbo. This has been estimated at a value of £1000 by 2 registration companies, but I tend to take their sort of valuation with a pinch of salt (though I could be wrong)
I was back in the days when using the car offered money for the plate on multiple occasions, one gentleman in a petrol forecourt took £300 out of the cash machine and said he would do the same the next day too if I would sell him the plate – but at the time I didn’t want to sell either car or plate.
Ive looked at various of the adverts of these cars for sale now over the last 8 weeks, spoken to people on several Saab forums and the general consensus seems to be to advertise the car and plate for £2100 together, or if someone didn’t want the plate then the price would be £1500 for car alone.
Please do not ask me to sell the plate alone, whilst it may come up for sale at a later date it will be offered first to whoever buys the car and then and only then if they don’t want it will it be removed.
The only px/ swap I would consider is for an Audi S3
