Slater is right imo, it's all part of a forum 'growing up' and demand outweighing supply.
I like the moderation here, I like the way the forum is kept sort of close to topic. I also like the way most stuff is clumped into one general section.
I like to think RR is more qualitative than quantitative.

I don't mean this to sound bitchy, and it isn't aimed at anyone in particular, but we all have Google, most of us have cameras and shows happening around us, and we're all able to start new topics on Retro Rides. If the forum content is slipping - show us some cars that you'd like to see on here!

Its too late to change it. Every forum has a life cycle, we have just got to the point where theres too many members not enough decent content. We have seen allmost everything retro cars has to offer! or alteast it looks that way. All the Euro and J scenes that were pretty obscure and thus curse word hot have been pretty much covered and now they are a bit average and make me long for the good ol days! "Everything that can be invented has been invented" - Charles H. Duell 1899 There is still so much to be discovered out there, from individual cars, to whole scenes. Whats more there is new stuff happening all the time.. A single car that you see within the thousands of pictures from Worthersee can start a movement... Sure we've covered a lot of ground, and we've discovered a lot of things, but it's not even one fifth of whats out there thats worth looking at. Hell there are some master car builders in the UK that hardly ever get mentioned on here whose work could fill a few days worth of quality threads

My 2p, I think the forums great. Freindly, someone with a Lada is given as much time as someone with a scratch built drag car. Everyone seems valued Were all petrol heads at the end of the day and as discussed a while back "Retro" is a state of mind, not a reg mark on a number plate, IMHO! Could do with an OT bit I think though. All an OT thread needs is a pic of a chevette or similar and it gets left on the board, no old car pic and its pulled. May as well leave them all up and stick them in an OT part.

I find the forum a little cliquey and differing opinions aren't welcome in some cases......and as i've been told on more than one occasion if i don't like it i can take a running jump.So i feel it's best not to post much, but i still enjoy reading the threads, and i love the ebay section, not matter what the age of the cars are posted. But i doubt anyone particularly cares what i think anyway!

and as i've been told on more than one occasion if I don't like it I can take a running jump. This is true, I can't deny it,.. but I'd like to explain it a bit better. Firstly, this forum was built on positivity, that is to say if you didn't like something you kept quiet, a post with no replies soon disappears. If you don't like something, don't read about it, certainly don't take the time to tell someone you don't like it... better to spend the time looking at something you do like, or posting about something you do like. It is a quality filter in that way, rubbish disappears off the bottom of the board and the cream floats. Thats not been happening since people have been happy to respond to curse word posts, telling people how bad they are or how bad the car is. Secondly I've taken the "if you don't like the way I do things then leave" stance from day one. I've also consciously taken the choice that I can't please everyone, so I'll please myself and hope that like minded souls like the same things I do, and want to interact with each other. Its got us by so far... I printed up about 800 flyers just over 3 years ago, I've still got a bunch of them here... thats all the active advertising we've done (outside of the first 2 days where I announced it on 3 or 4 forums) .. everything else is word of mouth. I do think quality has slipped a little bit recently,.. but perhaps thats my fault because I've been a bit preoccupied with the show and trying to sort out a magazine... new forum is in the works (and its ace,.. realllllly ace)...so hopefully we can make a fresh start soon

I'm sure your right guys but where is it??? where can i find it? where did it come from before? why is it not coming now and why are we not finding as much as we used to?
If theres so much out there why is it not being posted on here! thats what i want to know i guess
Semes to me that when we started out we were discovering whole new car cultures to drool over and now we just get the odd car now and again.
I'm so guilty of that Hotwire. I used to bite my lip and keep a positive outlook but am having real trouble doing it at the moment! its not natural! might have to go and join barry boys i think. :/ I need a new car to build.

I see what you are saying, but i like looking at things i don't like too,or at least looking at something to decide if i do or don't like it.Then surely by posting a negative opinion sparks off conversation....something that only seems to go on between the long standing members.I'm sure people like to know other folks opinions,i sure do.

I enjoy Retro-Rides. Yeah there's the odd topic or comment that niggles me, but on the whole it works for me. BTW, what's the best car shampoo? I want to wash my blue Estelle!

Ahhh, I have had a nice working holiday. knackered brain melted but refreshed IYKWIM! TBH The forum is still great, err very great, and I spend too long on here posting and reading. I reccommend a break to anyone that is unhappy, or has little to say, or like me, here too much for their health. sharing thoughts with like minds is addictive, and a great thing. So don't go too far. These clensing threads happen every now and then, shakes things up but as I say, timeout and come back with goodies or a fresh mind. As for coming to the end of its life? NO WAI, changing? not much. still great, newer cars will come in, we are a bit like Practical Classics Mag, we like old stuff but cheap fun appreciating old stuff can be a pile of guilt free fun low budget, see darrens Quorsa, and soon my van! But we don't want to turn into a cross section of the grumpier PC readers do we. get out what we put in. (dreams up an interesting thread! ) Alistair, sadly even an early Sierra isn't an old school Ford, well not on Old Skool Ford site anyway! Peace dudes, look forward to fresh threads... (Edited for shonky typing ;D )

only been here a week, find it fast paced and varing opinions excist, slight sarcasm and rants but isent that normal good forum. it not exactly out of hand and boaring threads just go unawnserd and fast disapear down the board . so if you don't like don't coment and watch is disapere.
only thing id consider is maybe extra tequnical section. but I'm to new tobe enforcing my opinion.

This is still my favourite forum, as the diversity and quality of some of the cars is brilliant. The best part is seeing people build cars in gardens, out in the rain etc, on a budget as opposed to taking it to somewhere accompanied with a blank cheque.....
I've got a lot of inspiration from the cars and people on here, turning rusty cars that i'd run a mile from into roadworthy, proudworthy vehicles - its certainly given me the impetus i needed to have a go myself (as i used to) rather than getting someone else to do the work, as i'm too busy working, don't have the time or space (or sometimes enthusiasm) etc etc.
I have to say, i didn't used to look at the general forum much, and never posted. Did for the first time a couple of days ago and some of the responses were, well, confusing. Comments about where i live have sod all to do with anything, but i chose to ignore it. I hope the pics i added to the Woerthersee thread were useful, and perhaps some of the content was a little 'off topic' but hope that people would like to see a little more than cars.
Maybe a tech section would be good - just don't go down the route of some other forums, where there are sections for suspension, brakes, engines, car mats, ariels.......you get the point! Simple is best.

Seems to me that when we started out we were discovering whole new car cultures to drool over and now we just get the odd car now and again. Actually, you were discovering new car cultures and we were showing you them! ;D ;D I'm confident that there's things that you don't know about yet.

I love it on here. I'm not as much of a petrolhead/mechanically minded as most, but I am more than happy to give it all a go.
Had a few fun cars recently, Fiesta 4x4 offroader, Chrysler Cordoba, Skoda RX7, etc, so this place kinda suits me.
The usual haunt for me is an Audio forum, that has a motoring section, and for the love of god if you wanted to go spastic-hunting just spend an hour or 2 reading it.
Anyway ummm. This place is great. OT sections seem to attract the mong in people.

Could do with an OT bit I think though. All an OT thread needs is a pic of a chevette or similar and it gets left on the board, no old car pic and its pulled. May as well leave them all up and stick them in an OT part. Nooooooo! I've been on forums (naming no names) that started out as a one-marque forum, then put a 'general chat' section up which rapidly took over as the main destination for new posts. The technical section hardly gets posted on, the general chat has 5 new pages a day of 'what did you have for dinner' stuff. Nice, if you have the time for it but dull if you just want a 30 minute fix of rusty old tat! I'd have to say I wouldn't stick around here if it turned into a general chat forum but the mods are pretty hot on that I think the only compromise we had was a non-real section when GT4 came out on the PS2, for photos of virtual retro rides.
