Got the book and to date have owned; 2. Austin Allegro 5. Lada Riva 13. Susuki SJ 40. Volvo 340 I did at one point have a dream of owning every car on the list at some point but then I realised that even if the Ferrari 400 or Rolls-Royce Carmargue are considered "curse word" I still cannot afford them As to whether they are curse word cars, the Allagro was cool , the Lada one of the best cars I owned, Suzuki SJ's are cool IMO and unfairly lampooned and the Volvo 340 is not a bad old thing

I've owned a Rover 800, Ford Escort MkIV (shamefully; the comments were spot on, they're RUBBISH) and own a Subaru Justy just now. I aspire to own a LOT of the cars in that book. I thought the most unfair one was the Lancia Monte Carlo, just because Lancia deleted the brake servo it's suddenly a curse word car? The McLaren F1 doesn't have a brake servo either.

Found that book in a car I got froma notorious local bullsh!t merchant, and it's surprising how many of them he claimed to have owned. Winker.
Seems the usual top gear list of easy targets again, and I think the FSO polonez shouldn't be there. The 125p was MUCH worse! I know, my parents bought one new (to replace a lada 1200), then scrapped it a full year before its first MOT was due cos it fell to bits.. I saw the lada around for a few years after that, too..
I have a mate with an Alfa Arna or two, Its a prime example of curse word then, cool now (or thats what HE says anyway) We're talking about sleepering one with a 33 16v unit.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

It's more an entertaining read than anything, lots of easy targets though, right enough.

I agree with a lot of you guys. The cars on the list arent all curse word, its just personal taste. Ive owned a few of the cars on the list and loved them dearly for different reasons. I even enjoyed an Austin Princess for a while. It was a T plate and in absolutely immaculate condition with 26000 miles. Owned by a lovely old boy from new, it was maintained regardless of cost and didnt have a mark on it inside or out. I used to get the p*ss taken constantly but I loved it. It was quiet, smooth, comfortable, huge inside and looked completely different to anything else. I quite fancy another one now I'm talking about it. A nice metallic green 2.2 HLS with vinyl roof and tan interior. MMMMMMM.......:-)

just bought a number 1, and can sorta understand. not many cars can fit so little useable space inside such a reasonable sized wheelbase!

I think my opinions on this type of "journalism" are well known.
My top 50 curse word cars would be
Ford Focus Ford Mondeo Ford C-Max Ford Fusion Vauxhall Vectra Vauxhall Sintra Vauxhamm Meriva Vauxhall Zafira etc.
ALthouh ask me again in 30 years time and I'll probably love them.

Agreed the chap sounds a complete self opinionated 'bighead' of the 'Toss' Gear crowd who wrote this book! ...and then I see Retro Rides did an interview with the nonce! Don't bother with these so called 'writers' Remember : Journalist = T0$$er!

...and the Suzuki SJ is a Briilant way of Off roading cheaply.
So NO WAY should a vehicle like this be in curse word cars!

Everyone (except complete muppets) will disagree with some of them but I enjoyed it. Especially as the 2CV wasn't in there! Usually an easy target.

I do own the book and personally I find it really funny! I don't agree with the guy, but its witty and clearly making the VW Beetle the top curse word car is meant to annoy and insence, thats the whole point.
Anyway the guy scores low IMO purely cause of this answer......
"they used to be evil" WTF has he driven any 70's or 80's fords (sorry I am a bit bias) but they a friggin ace!

Sometimes I think it's too easy to critisise, even though most of us have got a copy. Realistically, if you want to get a book into print it's no good aiming it at us guys...we'd rather just slag things off on web forums than buy a book.
That was probably the best selling car book in the last few years, just as Top Gear is the biggest motoring TV program. Doesn't anyone wonder how Mike Brewer gets almost 50% of the motoring TV slots with Auto Trader, Deals on Wheels, RPM and Wheeler Dealers? These writers/journalists/presenters aren't idiots, they're geniuses in the realms of sales and ratings.
I wish I'd written curse word Cars - then I could spend all the royalties on collecting the full set (of cars)!

Mixture of easy targets and a few iconic favourites put in there for a bit of controversy. Its not exactly Schindlers Ark but it aint a bad read.
Better than "the worst cars ever sold in britain" - the Chrysler 180 is in there for some bizzare reason so thats him off my christmas card list.
