I don't know if they're retro or not but i'm getting one to replace the passat with. When i do a google search all i see is pimped up ones with 18" alloys and airbrushed murals on. We will be doing ours satin black, moon discs, whitewalls, pinstriping, cadillac rear lights and with a sunvisor. Anyone got any pics of one done like that so i can see how good (or bad) it looks? Cheers. ;D

They're cack. Faux-retro like the BMW Mini but without the credibility or talent to back it up.

They're cack. Faux-retro like the BMW Mini but without the credibility or talent to back it up. They actually drive rather better than you'd think. We've just got rid of our 2005 2.4GT - not all that quick, and horrendous on fuel (18mpg!!), but much nicer to drive than a Scenic or Picasso, for example. And ours was Electric Blue and mural-free - just blacked out windows, smoked bugshield, and a nicely striped tailgate by Tootall. Yer pays yer money...

The rear 3/4 blind spot nearly ended my life in the USA one year - it's huge - you can hide a MACK truck in there - I know I did and nearly became road kill!!!

rear 3/4 visibility is why Akku-mamma never bought one and got a RAV4 instead. Mrs Akku still wants one and keeps an eye on the used prices. It was the fastest selling Chrysler for 2 or 3 years running and there were significant waiting lists. Chevrolet now do a clone which I have heard may be sold in the UK through the old Daewoo network. Although UK sales of the PT seem to have slacked right off, was a bit of a trenty thing for a year or two here? Dunno. Seems to have better rear 3/4 visibility. Personally I'm a little dubious about cars pretending to be what they are not and I'd in no way want top be associated with the PT Cruiser club fools with their horroshows on wheels. Some simple mods and that should make it nicer.

I think it's fashionable not to like these cars, but if you're a fan of Hot Rods then being able to have a 'normal' car with hot rod styling cues must be a good thing.
To claim one is a hot rod would be foolish, and I've seen too many spoiled with bolt/stick on goodies, but there's no reason why you couldn't 'do' a nice one.

Standard = curse word Modded like most of them are = even more curse word Modded in a retro way = Could be very good! Or could be very curse word - difficult to tell without actually seeing one, by imgination is not that detailed.

rear 3/4 visibility is why Akku-mamma never bought one and got a RAV4 instead. I'm glad it's not just me !!!!! Apologies to any PT fans but We got one as a rental for 2 weeks when they first came out in the USA (she thought they were cute - or summut like that and it was her holiday treat) and TBH the inside and the driving experience left me cold - everyone asked what they werelike and she slam dunked them everytime "Oh they are great to look at but to drive he thinks they are rubbish - I don't drive but they aren't that nice from a passenger viewpoint either - and that 3/4 blind spot is feeking scary!!" And mg (converted to UK mpg) over the 2000 miles was dreadfull - sub 25 most of the time whereas a "trep" or "stratos" never returns less than 30 on highway mileage We stuck with either Stratos or Trepid's for all the holidays since and don't regret it.

Dilema.......
I think many drivers are closet streetrodders, so a new car with rod cues is up their street, but when living with it, and realising it is just another Daewoo/Hyundai/etc.... below the skin, some may become disillusioned, Looked at one a few years ago as a company car when looking at Scenics, and did not like the plastics and finish, however did end up with a 2.0liter Chrysler Neon, which did what it said, but was an uninspiring drive after a 16 valve 1.8 Vauxhall Astra hatch.
As they said..... you pays yer money and all that.
The catch is that if you get one and execute the mods in a way that appeals to many here..... you will be a hero and maybe start the trend before it becomes another scene (not sure it will though)

Another one with the 'blind spot' ( SPOT - more like mooncrater! ) experience - I was on a test drive in Deutschland...... and the look of sheer terror as the salesman pulled out in front of a flat out Porsche was something you never forget........ Luckily o-one got hurt and it was enough to convince the g/friend that is wasn't for her. ;D There was one that was dropped, moondisc'd and had a blower all hidden away - was supposed to be quite rapid - but cost a bucketload to do. Featured in SM, or Revs or something - I forget which.

I had one as a test drive and found the seats uncomfy, rear seats laughable (think park picnic bench, you know, the really narrow ones), the screen fogged up like my old minor traveller and the body roll nearly had me over at the first roundabout... Saw a few of the chevy's when I was in vegas in march, looked nicer. I remarked to the missus that I wondered when they would be over here...

Thanks guys, the only thing is, i wasn't after anyones opinions on them as i'm big enough to make my own mind up. I just wanted to see if one had been done to my spec or not. All i ever see is nasty ones with chav wheels and airbrushing on them. So, does anyone have a picture of one done properly or not?
