..but i need help lol I've seen the ebay jobbies you can buy and they all look well and good but none seem to look right to me and my mate is determined to build some with me, we just don't know how you would go at it.. I'm looking at something similar in shape to these - Does anyone know of any guides or who has knowledge of making arches like these using sheet metal? We have rollers, mig/tig welder, a pipe bender, a vice, good selection of hammers.. any help would be much appreciated, even if it's just to tell me i'm wasting my time and should just buy a set lol Cheers, Bloor

Have a look at MKI & MKII Transit dual rear wheel steel arch extensions. Obviously not exactly what you require but could be a base to modify. If you want to make from scratch then work on the KIS (keep it simple) basis. I'd start with a flat piece of cardboard to see if that could be bend in just one plain to create the shape you desire. It can be attached to the car with parcel tape, gaffer tape or whatever you have to hand. Step back and look at the shape from all angles to see if it's right as what might seem perfect from 6' could look completely different from 20' when you can then see the whole car.

Many years ago Street Machine did a few articles on wheel arch and wing extensions. On one particular one they started off by using small diameter steel tube, possibly some sort of fuel or brake pipe, and made a framework up to support the sheet. One long piece for the wheel arch opening attached at each end and then short lengths to attach it to the original wing. Someone might have some pictures somewhere but they did a Polski Fiat pickup and possibly the blue street machine rover coupe I think. Once the profile is correct they just welded sheet to it to form the arch, sounds so simple doesn't it ! I just went looking. There should be some pictures of the pickup but there are some of an Anglia having arches made up. www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/history-archive/own-up-ex-vanners-1340/page44

Have a gander through TonyBMW's posts. He's made some for a Toyota. I'll either be in that thread or "Making Panels"

Yes! Thanks everyone for the replies, will show my mate all of this and see what he thinks (also going to look at some of TonyBMWs posts now for some ideas on shape and design!)
