Sometimes now and again generally through boredom, I wonder how many cars that I have owned are still around. Thankfully the thought disappears before I obtain a chance to waste even more time. Unfortunataly this change a short while ago. Only a few weeks ago I read this blog via Facebook about the curse of a well known car program with it having a rather Marmite appeal: www.japclassifieds.com/2014/04/wheeler-dealers-japanese-cars/It also occurred to me that this show has now been running for almost 10 years, with me driving now for well over a decade! Over that time I would say that from what I remember over 30 cars have pass through my hands. Out of those: 10 cannot be acccounted for (they may have had plate swaps (unlikely) or been scrapped. 19 (surprisingly) are still around (I either know what path they took) or they are still showing on the DVLA's books. The surprise for me was seeing which cars were still alive ; the MG Midget I sold which was a dog's breakfast when I bought it in all honesty is still going these days ; an 03 Clio which I sold last year for half a bag of sand which was in a state upon me buying it is also still going strong (I guess in hindsight I did many niggling faults on both cars). Others however have surprised me ; the Dolomite Sprint which was one of the tidier car I had owned is now SORNed for some time (it could be down to the job the guy does as well mind you) as is another car (my 306 GTi-6 but then I guess their values did hit the floor). So, if you are that bored in interested to find out, how do your ratios fare? A killer or reviver?

I'm more of a emergency rescue and stabilization of patient-type. I'll try getting the scrap i find repaired enough for others to bother fixing it.

I'd like to live up to my username!
Some 30 previous Scimitars and the majority are still alive. I've seen a good few since at shows, and that is immensly satisfying.
The sad fact is the number that I know have ended up exported, but UK prices are low and overseas interest is high.
A Sabre I briefly owned is now the worlds fastest peice of furniture. I'm ok with that.
Would be interesting to know how many of the dozens of 3 wheelers I had are still going, many may now be dead as it seems no matter what you do to try and secure a vehicle's fate, a determined idiot may have the final word! And they're the sort of car that seemed to attract them.

Current: Reliant "750" Super Robin, Scimitar SS1s - 2 x 1300, 1 x 1600, 1 x 1800ti. 76 years off the road between them! Also - Mitsubishi Galant Sport and Hyundai Coupe Gen3

This is quite easy for me because i'm not so much a killer or a reviver, more a keeper (some may read as hoarder)! I bought my first car in 2000 so starting there.. 2000-Present - 89' 309 - Dead but still on the drive, Probably beyond any revival now 2005-2012 - 96' Escort - Dead (Drove it to the weighbridge) 2007-Present - 86' 309 - Never been on the road in my ownership, but might, if its very lucky one day. 2008-Present - 80' 924 - On the road, Track-day project 2011-Present - 82' Corolla - Garaged but safe and well, Long term Project. I have have had a few company cars too but they don't count. I have never sold a car as a car, just the escort as metal! I only went out looking for the 1st 309 and the escort, the rest found me. I don't look for cars because the stable is full. -Steve-

So we can say for sure that the MR2, Suzuki SJ, LS400 and Impreza from that list are all dead, since their Date Of Liability are all not on the 1st of the month, meaning they've been scrapped.
Plus from the article itself, the Skyline was broken for parts days after the show aired!

I just read through the article, very supprising. I expected the sales to be staged but thought more would go on to have lives beyond the show.
I hope some of the non- Japanese cars have faired better!
I think with old cars, (which are often cheap when compared to modern stuff) someone with money but no care gets them and doesn't treat them well. They can ruin good examples of not very valuable cars with out really meaning to. Swings and roundabouts though as some of that same group are the ones that pile good money into restore some of those cars too.

I've revived a few, bought from the brink to a much prettier and more useable condition although not mint, i've given them much more life than they would have had....
then they fall into the hands of morons over time who don't appreciate the time and expense that's gone into bringing unloved cars to a better standard for them to buy up cheap and destroy.
If that makes me sound bitter, that's because I am slightly! I know we can't keep them all, but by christ I would if I could!
I've always been of the opinion there are two types of petrol head, those who appreciate a car or cars for what they are, enjoy using them, working on them, looking after them and the car is number 1. Then those to which a car is a means of getting access to their kicks in terms of speed etc. The first one will look after a car, the second one doesn't actually care much for their cars, they are all disposable, as long as they get their kicks. If that makes any sense lol

All bar my last two dailies are dead One of my brothers has the 75 and the V6 Mondy went to a customer who used it for a year or so and then stashed it in his garage! Of the projects the McCoy went through a couple of owners before finding its way to Norway apparently and a donor Kadett I sold found its way back to me when the mate I sold it to realised how grim it was! That said my Kadett was done up then used / modded and used some more for 13 ish years til I took it off the road as it was getting tatty again. Also my rough and ready semi daily Cooper went from tatty to holes this year and is also parked, but they're both in the dry and on the list

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

I have had hundreds pass through my hands, a large number of them have been Triumph 1300/ Dolomite shaped. some I know went to the tin factory after being completely stripped to the point of there not even being a full body tub left, some have gone on to be restored/ part restored my myself and sold on, a few have been sold or given away to help save others and some have gone on to other restorers with at least two now residing in the states. I have never scrapped a car that hasn't been offered to others first and then they will be stripped of every usable part.

Having multiple cars and motorbikes, all classic/retro, and trying to keep as many running at the same time as I can, I guess I'd class myself as a Triage Surgeon? Although with one of my bikes it's really approaching Mechanical Necromancy these days

Quick question which is sort of on topic (as it concerns my old Fiat Coupe) - as the car is SORNed and failed the MOT quite a while ago, does the SORN notification get removed if it gets scrapped?
I assume it would be up to the owner to mark it as scrapped, however are the DVLA as reliable to update this as usual...?

My 1967 Beetle 1500 is still registered, same owner I sold it to in 2008 I think.
My 1976 Corolla has been sold on a couple of times since I sold it in 2010. Stupid bint owner was selling it a few months ago, she had driven it through the winter. So it has rust now. It was rust free and mostly original paint when I sold it. Hopefully someone will give it some TLC.
My 1978 Volvo 244 has been taken off the road, probably scrapped. Don't know why, it was pretty good when I sold it.

Difficult, as a breaker i've sent many accross the weighbridge (MANY) but saved many more, i'm more the non feeling vet who puts down the past it and passes on the weak after a quick heart restart to somone who cares. As for personal cars, i get attached and drive em till they can't be driven no more, then i scrap em, odd concidering the amount of cars i've had but that's why i tend to own 4 or 5 cars at a time but only ever sold on maybe 5% of them after. I do have a psaaion for old cars but that is mainly making money from them, as it's been since i was 14, after 31 years you get a bit dispassionate about them TBH or rather having owned most of the british cars on here i can clearly still see thier faults and i'm not blinded by the rose tinted spec most of us suffer from wearing, which is why when asked for my best and worst car i've owned they are the same, a cortina (not the same cortina ) and i'm happy to admit i drive a POS

I've only had two. My 78 Dolly 1850 and a 79 Dolly 1850... The 78 is still used nearly everyday. The 79 was dead when I bought it, 1300Dolly actually took that one off my hands for me. Call it a draw I guess.

Surprisingly, my boss' old Mk1 Yaris, which had done 250,000 miles and was still on the original clutch, was sold to WeBuyAnyCar.com last year for the princely sum of £200.
Just checked on the GOV website and it's just passed another MOT and is taxed until March. I was certain it would be curtains for it.
