Well, this is a bit of a surprise really, not an advert I was expecting to be writing. I am prepared to consider thinking about contemplating the sale of my 1989 E30 325i Motorsport Edition convertible in Nogaro Silver.
I've agreed a deal on another very interesting project car and as well as Jonah Four Engines the red Baur, and the Macau Shark in the "currently keeping" list we've acquired another very early 323i Baur that'll probably be kept as a rolling restoration and retained at least in the medium term, so something has to give.
It's a 1989 Motorsport Edition, one of the second run of Motorsports. My recollection is that there were 250 in Nogaro Silver. This one has been owned by me and the V5 registered in my name personally for about four years I think. It's showing about 135000 miles and is in perfect mechanical condition. It needs nothing mechanically having recently benefitted from timing belt and water pump, recent service, propshaft guibo, shocks and springs etc. etc.
In bodywork terms, it is structurally very good, but both rear outer arches will need some attention in due course, but they are far from hanging off. Sills, inner arches, floor pan etc. are sound. There are the odd dents and dings here and there and the bootlid needs repainted. Potential purchasers are welcome to conduct an inspection on the ramp.
The extended leather Motorsport interior is complete and the seats show the tricolour flashes front and rear. The front seats need repair and are currently out of the car. Bolsters, cushions and foams that have been squirrelled away for the purpose will be supplied with the car as will a pair of tatty sports seats to allow you to drive it while restoring the correct all important seats. The dash is uncracked.
The rare and awesome EH roof works, though it could definitely do with a new canvas. The car will be supplied with a whole load of EH roof spares accumulated over the years and an EH frame with a cheap, but perfect condition American vinyl copy roof which could be fitted temporarily while having the original recovered.
The car will also be supplied with the factory hardtop.
In terms of spec, it has pretty much everything:- HLWW, LSD, OBC, Jimmy Hill spoiler, rear headrests, period audio, all the correct Motorsport bits are there (Bilstiens, springs, extended leather interior, m-tech steering wheel, top tint screen etc.) door tweeters, full toolkit, first aid kit, triangle, shadowline trim, electric aerial etc.
It wears a set of slightly later Motorsport BBS alloys with Nogaro centres, though if bought by a purist, we'll put a set of standard silver ones on if required.
It'll come with twelve months MoT and it can be used immediately as is and improved as you use it or if you were to do the work required - approx £2500 (£750 for a perfect roof supplied and fitted, £500 on the two front seats and £1250 for body repairs and paint), I'd say, if you do it all professionally and a whole lot less if you do bits yourself - it'd be one of the best, most original Motorsport convertibles out there. It's totally original and unmolested. It has never seen a Tech 2 kit and a tube of No More Nails. It is, of course, a genuine Motorsport Edition and the factory build sheet is with the car.
As I say, it's not something I was expecting to sell and all the bits I've accumulated for it over the years will go with it. I'm not prepared to split it or sell any of the bits like the hardtop or the wheels or roof bits separately. Somebody is going to get a great car and a great collection of parts.
I think it is easily worth £4500 as it stands, bearing in mind what it is, its overall condition, the factory hardtop, Nogaro wheels, spares etc. and if you did what was needed to make it perfect rather than its current useable condition, it has to be worth very close to five figures.
I've had a Motorsport convertible of one variation or another for a long time now and as I said, I had no plans to sell this. I think it is a very attractive rare, sought after car for a very attractive price. I'm not looking for offers on this.
The B18 KRS number will come off it and it'll go back on the age correct "G" plate.
Up to date photos will be added in very early course. I can photograph any part of it for interested purchasers, but I don't expect it go be for sale for long at this price including a spare roof and hardtop.
