a couple of months away yet -- typically nice enough in March or April to get the car out of here and on to the road.
hopefully nothing is horribly wrong once we get it rolling under its own power.

the 500SEL diff is supposed to be a direct bolt in and offer the larger ring and pinion. so I'm told. Yeah I heard the same thing, but when I compared the two diffs underneath the car I couldn't see any way that the W126 diff would fit the W115 subframe. The W126 diff is huge compared to the W115 one. I think there's a difference between early and late W126 diffs, so perhaps that's where I'm going wrong and I have the later 500SEL diff or something.

correct, it has to be an early 85 euro 500 SEL or SE from what I gather.
either way, not worried. the ring an pinion in the 240D rear end is 7.6" or larger as it is, and that should have zero issue shuffling around 350lb/ft tq in a 3100lb car

Nice work. But what was wrong with the original oil pressure gauge? I liked it better.

it was a mechanical gauge. the M117E55 does not have any privision for a mechanical gauge.

lots of boring and hard to photograph progress today * Electronic oil pressure gauge works now * Gas pedal is solidly mounted now, although still only getting 0-20% throttle sweep on the main throttle body. * test fitted some 1992 190E 2.6 radiator fans I had laying around and they're a spot on fit. may still end up going with the original /8 Fan though * re installed main engine mount nuts exhaust shop removed * welded in a stronger mount for the brake booster * re attached and verified function of hood latch and release. * ordered many parts * installed new turn signal stalk that self- cancels properly * new radiator cap, hoses felt a little hard for my taste. patiently waiting for spring time now to test drive and debug.

I love it. I have thoughts about getting a old merc and sticking a later diesel lump in (w210) and running veg oil.

painted and reinstalled the switch bezel purchased factory door switches and swapped them out. originals were quite corroded and did not function reliably. found out the trunk dome light assembly still worked, just needed a bulb! reinstalled center console for the first time in 5.5 years. she's getting so close

re stuffing the front seats as all of the horsehair is gone, but keeping it original. Always loved the interior on this thing. so much more modern than most 40 year old vehicles.
