anyone else realised how redundant the old fashion head units becoming?!
I don't have an aerial or CDs in the car, I only listen to my iPod.
Is there a company that makes a small amp with 4 speaker outs a sub out and an aux/jack in?
I had my stereo in the glove box but recently had a dash flocked and I don't really want to knock it about cutting the glove box up.,

The best I've seen so far have only been shallow depth versions of traditionally shaped head units with no C.D. or (dare I say it) cassette drive. I only ever listen to the music on my SD card in my daily (I find the engine more entertaining to listen to in the Scimitar).

There's a couple of products, kind of like a pre amp, but most only have two channels and none have a sub out. ?

I've been looking at them for the Oxford and for me I think it will ease installation over a system made up of seperate amp/electronic devices.

I will be getting one of these for my MX5, (well it's lighter so will make the car faster :-) might even go that way for my daily as some have bluetooth etc. As said there are plenty of amp units on eBay that take a line input but all are 2 channel only. Could you use a sub that takes a speaker input, or run the amp in parallel with the sub amp?

If you look at some of the higher end phone hands free kits, they will give you 4 channel outputs, ipod, usb or 3.5 jack inputs and will stream the music from your phone, some do this without any sort of screen, some with quite a small discreet screen. I fitted a Motorola tk30 in to my sisters car, you can turn the radio off and run everything from the HF kit. I have also installed similer parrot kits and they work well too. The motorola even has rca outputs for an amp.

Could the head unit not be connected to a remotely located cross-over netwrok to split and provied additional outputs (assuming these are still available, showing my age now)? It will still only be two-channel stereo but most music is anyway. It's not as if you are trying to recreate a 5.1 surround sound home cinema setup, or are you?

Just relocate the back of the headunit and hard wire the pop off front and mount it on a sunvisor
