Description
This is a 1988 E plate E28 BMW 520i Lux Auto finished in metallic blue. In summary:
• In excellent condition inside and out
• Only 73000 miles
• Comes with 8m MOT with no advisories
• V5 present
• Only 5 former keepers
• Entry level classic car, appreciating classic
This car has certainly been very well looked after over the years and its condition reflects this. Feel free to call me on 07738 171185 for more details or to arrange a test drive.
This is an honest appraisal of a 26 year old car, detailing the very many good points and highlighting a couple of areas requiring attention. No car of this age is going to be perfect. I don’t want anyone to make a wasted journey to see this car so I have tried to be as open and honest as I possibly can in this listing. I am also happy to answer any questions or provide more pictures.
Interior
This car benefits from:
• Blue cloth seats all in fantastic condition. There are no signs of wear, no rips, tears or marks
• The carpets are in excellent condition, very clean and there is a full set of BMW floor mats.
• Electric windows to the front, both working
• Central locking
• Stereo:
o Period tape cassette player fitted
o Tape cassette holder fitted – This item is quite valuable on its own.
o There is even a selection of cassettes included!
o I will include a CD player in the sale, it came with the car when I acquired it and I never fitted it. I cannot guarantee it works, but it is free of charge with the car.
• Sunroof, no leaks or corrosion around the drain holes [can be a common problem on these cars]
• No damp foot well’s [another common problem on these cars, often caused by rotten sunroof drain holes]
• The boot floor is immaculate, it’s like new, no rot or rust at all, please see the picture [rotten boot floors are a common problem on these cars, often caused by a perished boot seal and/or perished rear light gaskets]
• The dashboard is in excellent order with no cracks to the top [another common problem on these cars]
• The instrument cluster
o This has some intermittent issues with the fuel gauge, speedometer and rev counter sometimes not working.
o The odometer and trip work fine.
o This could be resolved by further inspection/repair or perhaps by fitting a salvage part. I have seen salvage clusters on eBay or forums for £50-80
• The spare wheel looks like it has never been on the car and the tyre is brand new!
• Full BMW toolkit in boot
• Jack, wheel brace etc...
Exterior
This car benefits from:
• Chrome bumpers are both in excellent order
• Front fog lights, both working
• Four BBS Alloy Wheels in good order. They could do with a deep clean but they are not scuffed or damaged.
• All four tyres have lots of tread on them.
Bodywork
This is a great looking car finished in metallic blue. This is a great and very popular colour for these cars. It also benefits from:
• Excellent body work overall. There is the odd mark as you would expect on a car of this age. I have listed these below:
o Small rust spot on drivers front wing – A small repair would resolve this, it does not need replacing
o Small rust spot on passenger front wing – A small repair would resolve this, it does not need replacing
o Small rust spot beneath the rear number plate
• The doors are in excellent order, no corrosion at the bottoms
• The boot seal area is clean and rust free as is the boot shut area [above number plate, where the boot closes on to]
• There was some recent welding underneath to the sills undertaken for MOT. There is no rot or rust on the underside of this car now.
Mechanicals
This car benefits from a 1990cc petrol engine and an automatic gearbox. The gearbox is fine with no whines or noises. The car drives well and the kick down works fine. It really is a joy to drive.
Maintenance
This is the third E28 I have owned, they are great cars and appreciating classics. You cannot lose on a car like this they are only going to go up in value in the coming years.
They are very easy to work on with salvage parts readily available on eBay and on the fantastic forum.bmw5.co.uk/. This forum has been of great use to me in recent years whilst I have owned E28’s.
MOT
The car has 8 months MOT, until 10th July 2015, with no advisories. Very few miles have been added since the last MOT so I would expect it to sail through another MOT with no problems.
History & Mileage
This car is in excellent condition for its age and only has 73,000 miles on the clock. I have a selection of receipts, MOT certificates and tax discs for the car.
I also have a large selection of original brochures and literature that came with the car from new. These on their own have a value, however, I would rather they stay with the car than make a few quid selling them separately on eBay.
Viewing
Viewing of this car is a must and a test drive is encouraged. Feel free to call me on 07738 171185 for more details or to arrange a test drive. I live in a village called Bottesford which is on the A52 between Grantham and Nottingham. Bottesford is:
• 15 miles east of Nottingham
• 8 miles west of Grantham
• 10 miles north of Melton Mowbray
• 10 miles south of Newark on Trent
• 5 miles from the A1
Pictures
I am happy to take any additional pictures of the car and email them to you on request.
