Hi all, there is a car parked on a public car park near me, it has been sat there for a long time and I'm pretty sure its been abandoned. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on it, It is polish registered though... So I'm not really sure how to go about getting in touch with the owners, or how to claim it. I assume the council will have a policy on this, but would the car just get towed and crushed if I contacted them about it?
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge that might help? Thanks

Just ask the council how to go about it without telling them what kind of car and where to find it .

I checked this out with plod some years ago. You need permission from the land owner to move it, then keep it secure for 7 days in case the owner (with suitable documents) arrives to claim it. You can charge storage if that happens though.

Walk away. Potential minefield and simply not worth hassle with a UK registered vehicle never mind a foreign registered.

Go round your neighbours someone will know who owns it or who is Polish in the area. Could well be a load of pain for no gain though.

It probably is a minefield, but depending on what the abandoned vehicle is then it may well be worth going through. If it's something like an E-Type Jag then go ahead, but if it's something like a Daewoo Matiz then you may want to avoid

This is basically a terrible idea. The price of scrap just now is the only reason that car will still be sitting there. If it's a car you can use for spares, maybe try it. If you think you're going to get it on the road and have many happy years of free motoring, forget it.

You can't just claim a car that has been abandonded. It's not yours. If you take it and intend to keep it then you are committing theft, and you should expect the possibility of being arrested.
The only interested party in the car's removal will be the owners of the car park.

Why do you think its abandoned and the owner hasn't gone back to Poland for a few months or working away long term?
