With great regret, I'm offering up my trusty 1996 MK3 Golf diesel for you guys. It's been brilliant to me over the last 4 years and still has plenty of life in it. I will list some details below before getting more sentimental about it further down.
Good Parts
- Extremely economical. Although slow because of no turbo, the fuel economy on offer is what you can expect from your average diesel, making it a bargain for someone who wants a cheap car for a year or a project.
- Tyres are all very well kept, with one set purchased just two years ago and almost brand new.
- The cambelt was changed last September, along with the fan and power steering belt. Due to the costly labour, this will provide better peace of mind than many other MK3 available now.
- New battery last spring.
- Professionally tinted windows. Originally put in for extra security, as I stored guitars in it at the time. It comes with the original receipt with a lifetime guarantee and can be removed for free from the provider.
- Seats are in mint condition, with no wear, let alone tears or burns.
- I've just spent £400 on the MOT last month to replace the top mounts and exhaust system.
- The actual chassis has no rust. It was welded once but nothing came up on an MOT ever since.
- All gears engage fine and brakes work as they should.
- Full service history, dating from June 1997 until September 2013.
- Lots of receipts for the work carried out in my ownership.
- Spare tyre included and in perfect condition.
- I will provide the aftermarket CD player which came with it when I bought it if you want.
- Low insurance.
- I've also added smoked Hella rear lights from the VR6, smoked side repeaters and clear front indicators and blanks. The originals can be included for a little bit extra if you want.
- Come with two keys.
- It's mystic blue...the best colour!
Bad parts
- Passenger side windscreen wiper has stopped working due to suspected mechanism failure
- The front wings are rusted, with a large gap on the driver's side and a small one on the passenger side.
- Someone must have keyed the driver's rear door with a previous owner. Although there is evidence of an attempt of a touch up, it has never bothered me.
- Odd scrapes and tiny dents, although nothing terrible besides the above.
- It does shake a bit on starting on cold mornings, but a service could help it out.
- New tax laws mean I can't throw in the extra month left on the tax! Grr!!!
I need this gone this week, so I'm willing to offer it for £500 to the first person. I'm available to show the car during the daytime and could meet somewhere else in South London. Payment by cash only on collection. You can leave a deposit if you like, but we can discuss this at the time.
The car is located in me for more details or to arrange a viewing.
I will miss this car, and don't want to scrap or break it. Someone pick up a bargain to run for the next 10 months this week!
