I'm getting back into the idea of getting the golf gti motor running in my van. I've hardly got anything left to do, I just kinda lost interest (and money!) Now then, here's what i've got to wire: If anyone can give me any clues as to where the following wiring should lead it would be great. From the warm up valve there is 2 wires: 1. Red/White 2. Brown From the cold start valve there is 2 wires: 1. Green/White 2. Black From the Auxilery air valve there are 2 wires: 1. Red/White 2. Brown The Thermoswitch on the coolant exit juntion on the block has 2 wires: 1. Green/White 2. Red/Black and here's a wiring diagram: N17 is the cold start valve F26 is the thermoswitch B is the starter F89 is the acceleration enrichment switch F93 is another mechanical switch (not really sure what for!) O is the dizzy I've got an idea of what's going on, but can anyone shed any light?

Alain - which engine is it, 8 or 16v and mechanical or electronic injection? If it's a mechanical inj 16v I'll have a look on my Golf. It should all be covered by the green Mk2 haynes manual if you've got one, loads of wiring diagrams and stuff in the back of there. Let me know the engine details and I'll post it on ClubGTI if you like, someone on there will know where all the wires go.

Cheers Stu,
It's an 8v K-jet.... I've got the golf haynes, wedge haynes and my passat haynes (also k-jet)...
I'll get there eventually!
Oh... and it's all been on Club GTi before, and no one could/would help!

I wish I could help but wiring is my weak point - I hate it and my "expert" doesn't subscribe to this forum

Ah well, I'll just get in there and have a go!
I'll try and drag my step dad into it... He's all into building valve amps and curse word, so I'm sure he can read a wiring diagram!

looks like youve already pointed out where everything goes, and with the wireing diagram should be the other details like : F93 is another mechanical switch (not really sure what for!) look at it and see what 15 is and youll know what its for.

Here's what you need... A magnifying glass and a pencil This is what you do... Work through your list of thingys, you have identified them on the diagram which is a good start Carefully follow through each wire for your current thingy to see where it ends up (I think Haynes have the German/English colour code chart, if not I can remember enough German to translate!) The wire should end up at one of these sorts of places:- Earth Battery + (always live) - not many thingys end up here Ign + (switched on when the car's running) - a lot of thingys end up here Another box - note this and add it to your list! Then you'll have a mini wiring diagram just for your engine, and you should be good to go ;D
