Ive been driving retros daily since i passed my test 3 years ago, but my current Cortina just isnt reliable enough to do to the 25 mile daily commute anymore and i want it off the road so i can get a few bits sorted for next summer, did buy a diesel 306 but that lasted a week as it leaked diesel, leaked water, gear linkage snapped, engine fell out, turbo blew, and i got 3 points in it... not bad for a weeks motoring id say... So i need idea's... of daily drivers! presonally hate old modern cars so oldet the better, preferably diesel and not to big an engine as being 20 with 3 points my insurance isnt worth smiling about... Give me ideas?!

My daily driver is a 1987 peugeot 309 xld diesel 2 door. Its nothing flash but its immaculate and has 29,000 miles on it, does about 550 to a full tank has a great heater, very cumfy seats and will go anywhere just about. And its retro too. or you could try a peugeot 205 diesel plenty around and some are cheap. :-)

2 litre turbo diesel. 150,000 miles and my only car. I've had it for 8 months and done 6,000 miles including a 380 mile round trip towing my camping to the Hot Rod Drags. A great car which I hope to have for several years yet. Bob.

As you have a Cortina, why not keep it Ford and go for a Sierra or mk1/mk2 Mondeo. The mondeo will be old enough to service yourself, but modern enough to have reliability, comfort, and safety.

Normally this: but as a couple of bit of me are playing up I'm in this: upon which the roof garden is doing very nicely thank you. When I get fed up with being shaken to pieces and when I can make it work properly, I'll be using this: as it has a really good heater and is very comfortable. Sent from my plague-ridden home using proboards and Beechams flu plus.

I'm currently stuck with this, biggest heap ive ever had, uncomfortable, curse word ride, constantly needing work and the slowest thing ive owned with a running engine. on the plus side the handling is just about ok and its good on fuel (38mpg)

Cortina not reliable ! I used to do 174 miles a day, every day for over a year, commuting in my 1600L Estate and never had a breakdown. At one time, for a couple of years in early 2000's, my everyday car was a 1956 Austin A35.

My daily is a 1994 VW Caravelle but I am borrowing my dads rover 45 as I am spending more and more time in traffic as Surrey is just one big roadwork at the moment, dads is an Auto.
The VW is probably a bit big for your needs but what a bout a rover diesel? 200/400 are mechanicly simple 1.8 peugeot engines and go quite well. 600 and 800 make good economical cruisers.

This is my preferred daily, 60+ mpg, comfy, heater should be good now that thermostat is changed. It's a diesel - you won't find another though! It's been off the road since august for muchos welding though, but I've nearly completed that, in the mean time I've been driving my polo which is also great just not as cheap!

Wife's daily is exactly like this one but in blue. Mine is an NC MX5 but I'm not sure I can call it a daily now I work from home as most days it doesn't leave the drive!

As the MX-5 brakes are currently kippered, and if I'm not riding my vintage pushbike, then this: Which is bloody brilliant.
