Hope the mods don't mind this, not strictly retro but a future classic and still a rare sight on the roads, between me and my son we have bought and sold around 10 cars on this forum hassle free (were not traders, for ourselves) , we find this a great forum for a lack of hassle and people that understand cars. So this is being offered on retro rides before anywhere else for this reason! Thanks.
This is serious performance car, this was Mercedes answer to the bmw m3, personally i think a better allrounder. Handles great for a big car but still retains a silky smooth ride. Around 50k list price when new! don't confuse this with other clk models of the same shape almost everything is AMG fettled.
I bought this car from a freind who had it around 8 years and used it as a daily, traveling up and down the motorway most of its life, he's a petrol head but doesn't tinker, so he always took it to a local Mercedes specialist garage. So i knew mechanically it had been well looked after. He actually loved it so much he bought a w209 AMG after selling me this one!
The majority of the service history is there, just In mine and Davids ownership (previous owner) i have over 6.5k of receipts just on servicing and serviceable parts. Including the original mercedes service book. However davids filing is abit to be desired, plenty of scrunched up receipts. But i know Its been serviced when its due, not left. This can also be confirmed by the garage thats been looking after it for over 10 years.
Worked carried out just this year alone is as follows;
Genuine AMG discs and ferodo pads just fitted (9th october 2014) . As you can imgaine these were not cheap!
15/4/2014 - Service, engine flush, oil and oil filter, fuel treatment.
- New lower ball joints
- Crank Position sensor
- Fuel filter
As usual, the work was carried out at the Mercedes Specialist in Holmes chapel, Cheshire. (can provide number and address) coming to £689 (not including the dics and pads.)
New numbers plates
The car comes with all the toys as you would imagine;
Fully leather Electric heated front seats with 3 memory settings and orthopedic lumbar adjustment which i believe was an expensive optional extra. Rear drop down headrests on the button. The rear seats look un sat in.
Multi function steering wheel controls – works the onboard computer to display things like the radio, speed, mpg, phone etc
Cruise Control and speed limiter
Comand Sat Nav / CD player / the tv doesn’t work since digital switch i don't know if you can sort this, so non of this works, However, radio works well picks up lots of stations and it also has a AUX cable fitted to use mp3 or your phone etc for music.
Inbuilt Car phone and speaker (Period Nokia! Just put your simcard in)
Electric Windows (1 push up/down). Electric mirrors (can be set with memory settings to match seat memory)
Remote central locking
Switchable on/off Traction control .
Remote boot popper
AC was regassed this year but is now in Eco mode, in other words off, not sure why it was fine when re gassed and checked by kwik fit , apprantly you can reset this so it could be that, just need to look how to do it. Heaters and blowers un affected. Will try and look into this.
x2 keys/fobs
Hill start
Mercedes 5 speed "smart" auto transmission, full auto or the option to change through the gears manually, its still very fast in full auto!
New spacesaver in boot with original Mercedes jack and tool.
Un used Mercedes first aid kit (nice retro touch not sure id actually use it now though!)
EXTRAS;
18' inch AMG 5 spoke staggered wheels (rears are wider), sit really nice in the arches and give it a slightly nicer stance than on the original 17's. Tyres are legal.
Longlife custom Secondary cat delete in stainless steel, built from front pipe from manifold through to existing centre section (£650 and lifetime guarantee!) Gives the car a lovely burble and lets out of some that AMG V8 noise when you give it some gas, but not intrusive at all and silent on the motorway with no droning. Still classy, sounds great!
Bad points;
Unfortunately its the body work that lets it down on the offside side mainly. Stand back abit it looks fine, but if you look close there is some lacquer lift down both rear wings, and the worse of it on offside front wing where its gone abit matte looking. The reason for this is the car was treated to a respray a few years back due to the common issue of rusting wings front and back (on a 50k car, i know, but common issue on all mercs of this era!) , however i have been told since by a sprayer, whoever resprayed the car didnt spray the lacquer in the right temperature so its lifted later on. I have been told you could flat the lacquer back and re do that, it hasnt bothered me to much and i don't know anyone in the bodywork trade so i havnt bothered other than giving it a good polish. There is also a small rust scab on the bottom of the door and the arches are showing through but not rot just scabby, it would be a good time to catch it. If it rains you cant actually tell its got the defects as the lacquer lift looks like tiny rain drops. Just trying to be honest so you know what to expect! Its still very presentable and shines up well.
Another common issue Mercs of this era suffer from. The instrument panel that shows the outside temperature and time, has gone abit pigmented and hard to read. This also shows what gear you are in manually, you can still read it but its not perfect. This can be fixed for around £100.
This is a perfectly usable car, i don't think you can get a much better mix of performance and luxury for much cheaper! Its got BRAND NEW MERC AMG brakes (not cheap pattern parts) so it stops and goes like it should, still feels really solid as expected from a car of this caliber. I have this on classic car insurance so its reasonable to insure. The question people are bound to ask.. whats it like on fuel, well.. I currently average around 25 mpg mixed driving . It did 32mpg on recent trip to the lakes according to the trip computer. It really is very good for a 5.4 v8 on fuel! Obviously this will drop if you get giddy.
Its also under the cheaper tax bracket unlike the later ones so its £225 for 12months, same as a renault clio 172 we had!
Starts first time every time and has never let me down. Ready to jump in and burble away. Used as a second car for me and at the moment just sits on the drive.
Here is one of many good reviews on this car;

£3200 ono
Located in Cheshire, 15 mins from Manchester airport. SK9.
Viewing welcome but no tyre kickers please, ive explained it best i can and looking around this is still the cheapest 55 amg i can find at the moment. Come and have a look.
Looking for a cash sale, but could be tempted to swap for an 205 gti 1.9 or WHY.
Many thanks.
Pics were taking the other week before new front brakes, i also gave the calipers a good clean and a fresh lick of paint.
