I'm hoping to get my Humber through this winter before I think about tackling a few scabby areas of bubbling paint and some exposed metal that has surface rust. Next year I plan to invest in a bit of body work repair and patch resprays, but to me (possibly I'm completely wrong about this) it doesn't seem worth doing that before the hellish rainy winter season... I'd be better seeing what looks a bad after winter by the sea, and tackling the full scale of any problems in Spring.
So.... I was wondering what people use by way of weather protection products on bodywork over the winter. I've got a can of Turtle Wax ready to deploy this weekend, but I can't help feeling there is something better out there. Google searches aren't throwing anything up other than rat rodders coating their rust in linseed oil. I see cars with exposed rust areas, particularly on ratty late 60'd Beetles etc, and they seem to be coated in some kind of hard coating of something transparent. Not exactly shiny, but clearly not the rough matt finish of bare rust.
My car is largely painted, it has no 'obvious' rust areas, so I'm looking for something that works on cellulose paint and will give it a good waterproof coating in all the nooks and crannies and areas where the paint has chipped off.
Anyone got any suggestions for tried and trusted products?
