when the gfs car got nicked I'm assuming the scumbags broke the steering wheel lock, and not quite sure what other damage, apart from the obvious ignition, we are going to be picking it up tomorrow as it was recovered the day it got nicked, not much petrol in the tank + idiot chavs = broken down car, most likely.
is the wheel lock easy to fix or is it gonna need a full steering column, and what about the ignition stuff aswell, if its not too big a job I may have a go myself
its a mk3 fiesta.
also anybody in sheff land know of a good place for services, gonna get it serviced just to make sure they didnt do too much damage

steering lock should be easy to sort - take a trip to a local scrap yard - and take one off - then you will find out the problems - most ford steering locks are made out of chocolate and cardboard - far too easy to bust

the alloy housing for the steering lock comes off as a separate unit from the column if you take the steering wheel off disconnect wiring etc it just knock/ bang it up wards away from the dash and it will pop off the top of the column, they will have probably damaged the steering wheel part of the lock also so you will probably need a wheel. oh if you still want to use your original key the barrel comes out buy turning the key to the first click them press the brass pin in at the top of the housing where the barrel is, it will just pull out then. are these noit held in by the same blind headed bolt stype things as Vauxhall obes are? I spent all day drilling one of those fuggers out once, I killed abut a dozen drill bits and the drill itself was knackered by the end of it!

theres no shear off bolts the Mk1/2 has them, the Mk3/4 ones just press over the top of the column and the steering lock is the same as a Mk5 escort. the only difference is if you have a airbag the lock/housing is beefier than the early one but not interchangeable
