Well the first surprise was same as UK drive on the left........ Apologies for a modern to start but this is the battlescar'd mental rental Well I've looked hard and there is definately not a straight panel on the car even the roof is dented!!! And so all the locals know to keep out of your way - you get red plates!!!! It's feeking slow and only needs the first three gears as it can't pull the other two "this car does have 5 gears" The missus said "I know - watch" select 5th and yep foot to the floor and the speedo's falling like the brakes have been applied "OK - it's gonna be one of those holidays!" she says "yep!!!" Anyway - Pics from todays meandering along the coast road near Paphos Crusty old truck - hasn't moved in a while but Ialways find these after life advertising hoardings appealing All looks in half decent shape But it's probably seen better days Now almost as soon as I'd found that I found this (Paul H saw this thought of you)For sale to........ Most of the rest of the day was pretty modern stuff and nothing to write home about except a whole gaggle of Mitsi EVO/Lancers went past - must have been a club meet or summut cos it was one after another after another etc etc - camera was in her care and she was "shopping" Did spot this (for the many Skud fans on here) So any way on the long walk home I got custody of the camera again I recognise that sound (get camera out of bag, turn on focus and take pictures as they drive past.) Obviously all going home from a meet....... Anyway any other notable spots I'll add to the post here

I'll keep an eye out then. we walked about 7 miles yesterday on the coast road but we didn't explore the back streets much. Managed to understand the tag system here (I think!) - tags are allocated to cars not owners and the locals can tell the age of the car from the letter/number sequence - It doesn't work for all cars as there are quite a few imports from the UK and they are allocated a tag related to the year of import. I've also found out why they are cars imported from the UK as prices in the UK are approx 50% lower in the UK so even after shipping costs and local tax is added there is a healthy profit in importing a few cars

Count yourself lucky, when I spent a fortnight in North Cyprus back in 2001 your choice of holiday car was Nissan Sunny (modernish one) - air con or Renault 9 - no air con!
As much as I wanted us to have a Renault 9, air con was a must have!
Never been to Southern Cyprus but I can vouch for N.Cyprus. Literally wibblepoo vehicles on every corner! The most common vehicles were Renault 12's & Fiat 131's!
When I got off the plane & straight away saw an R12 estate, I thought it was a good spot - little did I know that every 3rd car was going to be an R12! By the second week I was actually bored of seeing them!
Fantastic place!

Damn I want an A60 van... Good spot. And buying that Amazon would make for a good road trip home. Hmm

All Cyprus hire cars are like that - we never worked out if our Corsa was petrol or Diesel ;D It's a 1.2 petrol the following don't work - Interior light - Radio - Cassette (chewed up tape is still jammed in it - it's OK as it's Rick Astley - yes i got it that far out!!!) - The hazzard light switch has a mind of it's own - wedged in with match sticks - The fuel gauge still says full - we've done 300 KM's FFS - the AC doesn't work unless it's at night!!!!!! the following bits are annoying - The brakes are wafty - The tyre pressures ranged from 0.6 bar to 2.1 bar - the drivers seat won't go back or go lower - the fan only works on the final speed - snycros only work on first But the good news is the other half who has always said chop the Olop in for a "beautifull clio" thinks it's rubbish!! Result!!!!!!!! ;D Cos I like her olop

Last ones.............. Home tommorrow hired some push bikes for a few hours for a costal excursion I do love the cars used as billboards This one has had a few parts borrowed I bet since it's been parked up Saw this today and by a stoke of luck spoke to the owner it's been in Cyprus for 12 years (I know it's still on British Plates but you can use a car for six months a year on British plates povided it goes back into a bonded warehouse for the remaining six months) When they first came over 12 years ago the tax to put it on cyprus plates was £4000 (according to the owner that was more than the car was worth) They asked again this year and it was £150 so next month instead of going back into the bonded WH it's getting new plates It was mint BTW really really nice and underneath was spotless
