Hello folks, just to satisfy a curiosity (and pave the way for a future monster Relaint Scimitar build) can anyone point me in the direction of suppliers of second hand american V8's please?
A cut out LS1 and 6 speed box would be fantastic if it'll all fit but I imagine a bit pricey.
Cheers,
Smiler.

Cheers, though non of the firms in those links seem willing to deal in useable cut out engines.
There must be some way of getting hold of a cheap LS1 and box!

Real Steel do cutouts, but not seen them offer LS1s.
Although to be fair asking for a cheap LS1 and T56 is like asking for a cheap VW Samba van right now.
You may find one but not by asking anyone who knows what its worth!
I've seen people asking (and presumably getting) the kind of money for cutout LS1s you can buy a new crate one for.
Theres an LS1 specialist in Long Eaton on the Derby / Notts border but I'm damned if I can remember what they are called. The guy who ran the place used to post on the V8-owners forum as BoostedLS1 if that helps. He also did all manner of custom casting for intakes and the like for any engine.

American V8 engines quoted me £450 for a cut ford small block. I get the impression they list the cut out engines as ready to rebuild rather than ready to use to cover their own backs. Send them an email, the guy seemed happy to help when I was talking to him.

thats a LS1 and T56. IN fact some of the last Monaros and GTOs have the LS2. There is an option somewhere for the LS6 but not sure if that made it to the Monaro or just the GTO , or was it just the aus version, Oh, I can;t rememeber

Cheers for the replies, that Monaro is interesting. I don't have anywhere near the required funds yet, just pricing up posibilities and building a list of contacts/suppliers to see how viable it would be.
Ta folks,
Smiler.

There is a couple good american breakers yards in the U.K but be aware that LS1's are very sought after engines
Chevy 350's are a much more viable option and the aftermarker sector is HUGE and cheap.
A friend recently imported a 350 crate engine kicking out about 300 bhp and 350 ish lbs of torque for around £1800.
Buy yourself a good 4 bolt main chevy block add a comp cam 262 and a decent inatake , carb and maybe a head port job and you'll be seeing the 280 - 300 bhp and more importantly loads of torque
The main issue about going to wild is the gearbox . 700r4's are not the strongest boxes in the world and cost a fortune to rebuild. I've just imported a TCI race transmission for the same price a U.K transmission company wanted to rebuild one
Give me a shout if you want some info or contacts
