oh yeah, are there? high compression & low compression engines in the range, i've heard the later motors are'nt very good for putting a carb on & i think the 90's motors are the best to go for, i'd prefer a low compression engine to be honest! it will be tuned a little, i defo don't efi on my car! not that fussed on fuel consuption as the car will be a sunny/high days only! when i have the right info i'll be on my search for the right rover v8 motor for the job!

they're good motors to tune cheaply, up to say 280hp, after that they cost a fortune!! 3.9 has vertually no power gains over 3.5, most of them are low comp from range rovers as well. a 3.5 normal/high comp form an SD1 is more powerful than a range rover 3.9. loads of cool parts available, various manifolds to fit holley carbs electronic ignition and dizzy, cams, good headers, lightened flywheels, etc. oh and if you want a good one with all the above parts you could do worse than PM me

for me the best motor is the 95 3.9 motor which has the geardriven oil pump big mains caps and the bosses in the block fot drilling and crossbolting the mains caps. I'm using this motor for a single turbo set up as it has the least problems of the bunch . id have a look at dez,s package (ooerr!) as its a good deal compared to putting one together yourself .

what eva ya get, do the head gaskets! i got new composite ones from reel steel for summit like 20 quid, skimmed 60 thou off the heads (composites are thicker and wanted to up the compression), modified the inlet to take a weber 38dgas and had sd1 exhaust manifolds and the thing absolutely flew!!!
