I have just purchased a BMW e36 compact and the air bag light is on. Does anyone have any experience with this and know what is the best way to get it fixed?
I don't know if anyone would class this as a retro but any kind of help anyone could give would be much appreciated.
Thanks Jake

What it means is that you need to have the fault codes read. No one can definitely tell you what the fault is because it could be anything from an airbag open circuit to the instrument cluster loosing comms with the SRS module. Get it scanned and cleared.

If it was an E46 I would say connection under the seat, but I cant remember if E36's have one. As Rich says, need to get it scanned, it could be anything.

if you have a laptop you can buy a cable and software to read this easily, ask here to jimmy or look on ebay

On an e36 you'll want the old round connector rather than an OBD standard.

I bought a round connector to obd 2 on ebay for £4.50, works sweet with the snap on ethos on e39.
