One of the first cars I drove was a mates panda... 600cc I'm sure. Complete bog spec, didnt even have a proper dashboard, just a big pocket. It did however have 2 throwback sunroofs. Probably the most fun I had in a car and it wasnt even mine. We all thrashed the curse word out of that car, regularly crashed it into walls and bollards for fun... never really looked any worse. When the metal looked too bad we bought some replacement panels and painted it to look like a wheetos cereal box. Joys of being a teenager before police / traffic cameras and the internet. EDIT: Sorry no pictures, maybe one in an actual real photo album somewhere. The phones we had then looked like this... Car looked like this except 100 times shitter with the 2 cloth sunroofs... and normally full of giggling public school girls and rowdy lads trying to get in their underwear. Kinda worked, explain that!

Yes, loads here too (15km from Italy) as they are cheap and work really well in the snow. I like them and think I would have bought one if I didn't get a car with my contract.

I know a guy who had one for years, regularly went where his range rover wouldn't in adverse conditions.

My best mate had an original 900cc 2wd version - B885MRT- long since eroded by the British climate. It was one of the original metal grilled versions with hammock seats and the pocket dashboard with ashtray and stereo holder that you could slide into different positions.
It was and ACE little car. We went everywhere in it with windsurf boards and too many people on board. Somehow it just reeked of character which all of our other pals' cars didn't (my escort included). It rotted to death in the mid nineties sadly.
Apart from the bodywork they are tough little motors - a kind of 80's 2CV I always thought.
Another friends mum had a Panda Sisley 4x4. They lived out in the North Yorks wilds and it never failed to get them where they wanted to be. That one rotted away too sadly. apparently both door mirrors, and some bits of door, parted from the car at the same time when they hit a large pothole.

I had one of the early B reg Steyr Puch versions with 962cc engine. Mechanically it was great and could get places a large 4x4 couldn't however the body was terrible. It got broken for parts at 7 years old as so rotten ! I stored the parts for a while with the intention of sourcing a better body to reuse them but in the end gave up as most other Panda's of the era were just as rotten. BTW I did look underneath a brand new Seat Marbella in dealers showroom and found unused mounting lugs etc underneath that were needed for the 4x4 system so reckon they either made a 4x4 version of the Marbella or used exactly the same floorpan pressing. Overall fun little car but the 962cc Steyr Puch aspect meant parts more expensive than the normal Panda which I think is probably part of the reason why Fiat went to the 1000cc version after a couple of years.

The original Panda 4x4 is such a cool car and very capable off road as well. Love them and hope to own one one day if I can find one semi solid when the time comes.
Have you seen these two:

can the 4x4 system not be used on another less tinworm prone body? A Seat Marbella can accept the 4x4 mechanicals and the later Marbellas are Galvanized including the dreaded doors. The Panda section of the Fiat Forum has vast quantities of Panda love 4x4 and otherwise. Unless your prepared to pay top dollar for one expect to do lots of welding.

I would wrestle a particularly grumpy honey-badger for a panda 4x4, they have long been on my want list, and those videos are cool! I did spot one at RRG, hiding in the paddock... Must be someone's on here?! Must revive the 'lifted cars' thread, I still want a tough little off road hatch, even if its just 2wd...

That one belongs to a friend from work, who I pointed in the direction of this very thread at lunchtime. Hopefully he'll put some pics up of it in more suitable surroundings later!

We had one as a garage runabout many years ago , if it snowed someme had to take it home and pick everyone up so there was no excuse for not getting in . All it ever needed was the front brakes freeing off from sitting around and a couple of head gaskets from being caned to death from stone cold but on snow it was hysterical once the tyres were down to 15 psi it just kept on going where the big 4x4 ,s couldn't get any traction
