looks like a double pole relay ? could maybe simplify and future proof make a 2 relay system with off the shelf items ? It basically is that, one to lock, another to unlock, and 50% of them functioning! Might need to bone up on the circuitry to attempt an improved replacement, but hey... never replace; upgrade! One thing I was thinking was that I may extend the loom if I do that, to allow the relays to hide under the dash for easier access rather than on top where they are now, which is an hours graft to access!! You know what, I haven't been on this board for a month or two. Add to that I liked your project cars and progress. Imagine my horror when I log in to find you have bought a car I yearn to own, in the colour combination I would strive to get and finally that you probably picked it up for peanuts due to its issues! In conclusion I am very jealous and have decided to hate you. I accept those charges. It has taken me over 80 cars to nut up and get this in fairness! OK, more progress last night. First on the list was to address the valid suggestion that my vac advance may be split, causing a hesitation that I was diagnosing as a misfire. Simple solution so knocked it on the head in one move... Silicone lines with the original one way valve (I'm presuming?) installed. Next, as part of the basic service, I had to address the air filter. I managed to get the original out through the aperture at the front of the car. This was mainly as it was crumbling and reduced in size easily enough to do so... Split, saturated, and filthy. Well due a change. Unfortunately the replacement would not fit via the front aperture. Sigh... up goes the bunnet again. This is my homebrew solution to the fractional gap the factory bonnet stay gives you. Its as high as I dare go before something crunches, but makes a significant difference when working at the front end of the bay. "To replace the air filter, you must first remove the radiator"... ha, only on a TVR. These little jobs turning into big ones is actually something I relish, as it gives me an opportunity to poke my nose around and assess things before they give me bother. Given that my last 2 daily drivers have popped radiators on me, this is one such inspection I'm happy to do. In order to get it off, I need to whip this reservoir off too... At first i suspected this to be the expansion tank, but then ther was only one hose to it, plus on liiking inside it was full of the worst sludge I've ever seen, and not a lot else. I'm guessing power steering reservoir? Its a helluva size for power steering. Either way, its coming up for a clean out and an autosol session at a date in the near future. Few pictures from here on, so we skip to the end result: Squeezed in there a treat. Now you can see why the rad came out. Even managed to get it on the original mount, albeit with a longer bolt and a few extra washers to offset things... Up next, more filters...

This weekend, I polished. I polished a LOT. Although it has only served to highlight all the little lacquer chips and whatnot. Meh, at least it won't cause rust! What else did I do.... oh yes. Sorted the LED's on the heater controls: It's as per TVR OEM, but my own OCD is twitching that they used green to denote cold on the heater... Why not blue?? Anyway, it was broke so now is fixed. Moving onto something that was not broke, I took the exhaust off.... Then chopped out the box, removed the glass pack, and cut out the baffles... Not pictured... I then welded in 2 pipes, basically bypassing the centre box but keeping it looking original. Whilst out, i got handy with the Autosol... Love that stuff. Back on, and test fire... Much better!!

Brilliant car, it amazes me how they managed to build something fantastic by scavenging parts from the left over bins

Nice car, it's giving me a huge want!
K&n oil filters are really good too. Had them on my mx5 and the oil stayed cleaner longer.

Oh dear, this thread just got a nomination and I havent updated it in nearly a month.. Shocking! So what's happened? Well, I have been cleaning. Really cleaning: This was the last clear day, probably a week ago. I wanted to get in about it and make sure that when it went for a hibernation session it was spotless. Mission achieved! Since then, we went for one last drive at night. Took one last video to keep me motivated, then tucked her up in the Skunkworks.. Splumph. It will be along wait for the salt to clear the roads knowing that this noise is a key turn away. So, what's lined up? Well, as the pictures above show, wheels. I'm still irked by how under-wheeled it is. I have decided that I won't be going too radical as this is a drivers car. Hard stance and scrub need not apply, so some staggered 17's are the order of the day. As you know, it can't look like every other TVR, so Compo's are out. Stay tuned... Other than that, some asthetic tidying will be performed. One such example was the steering wheel, which was my early christmas present to myself. Not too keen on the 90's 3 spoke style that was on it, I decided to take adeparture and bring some of my previous J-influence into it. Enter the Nardi: I just LOVE this style of Nardi, and I had been threatening to put one on th AW11 but the driving position just didnt work (it has mega-dish) but on here it's made for it. Matches the dash so well, and the feel of the interior as a whole. Its also *just* slightly wider than the original, which is perfect for that grand tourer feel. This isn't a hot hatch. Other than those sorts of tweaks, there will be some maintenance. The car still hesitates, which I think I am getting to the root of. The ingition system has been totally changed, but there will be tweaks to the fuelling. Also, the coolant system will receive a full inspection and flush, and the chassis - a continual source of hell on these cars - will get a touch up. Its been waxoiled but there it one section at a jacking point that has flaked. I was under it last night tweaking hte battery mounting and i found a micro drop of oil. From what i can gather the its coming from around the clutch which is most likely the end-bearing oil seal. Good excuse to pull the box out and examine / upgrade the clutch...

Sounds fantastic. It'll be fun to see how well you can live with the loudness Speaking of wheels, have you seen this?

That Nardi steering wheel was made for this car, looks like the leather feed did the trick too.
Car just keeps getting better and better.
My vote goes to split rims. Big, wide split rims.
