i have an ally sump that has a box welded onto it for extra capacity.
I think when i have put the engine into the car maybe i have cracked the sump some how, i know its a little hairline crack that is either in or next to a weld.
Is there anything that can join it with out welding?
I don't want to take the sump off if i can help it , its a engine out jobbie i think as of the box on the side.

You could use a chemical jointing compound such as chemical metal but seeing as the sump is kinda important when it comes to keeping oil in the engine I would take it out and get it repaired properly.

Just drain the oil out and patch it with some liquid metal/JB weld/evostick metal in a tube/whatever. Might have to leave it overnight for the oil to drain properly so you can clean it all up for a good bond. Also may want to take the crack back a bit with a flapwheel, but it should sort it - done mine umpteen times!

is not bad enough that i worry about it, it can stop like it is really, we have tig welders at work but i don't want to heat the oil up in the sump,
Ill have a look for some JB weld then!
1300 dolly, would you be paul with the 2101?

if you have all the gear to do it properly. then take the sump off and do it properly, if you don't and you use all that JB weld or other sealents and it don't work you will have a lot of cl;eaning to do before you can do it properly so why not do it right the first time. Would be different if you didnt have the means to weld it.

because if i have to take it off to weld it, i have to take the engine out, i wont be able to get the sump off now as of this extra capacity box.

If its cracked next to the weld i would guess its had a gash job of welding in the first place or its not particulry strong anyway , so repairing with a chemical metal is the best bet , its likely it would just crack again if welded .
