what are the basics of turbo diesel tuning, up the boost is my 1st thought! & a bigger better intercooler & a bit more fuel pressure but i'm stummped from there,
apart from chipping as thats an external job i'm after home brewed ideas/knowledge, gotta keep the econamy mind! ;D
standard non turbo diesel tuning ideas are needed too!
cheers all

Mini 998cc grp bonnet & boot, lightend shell, 6-point cage, soon to have a turbo on the 998 engine (t2 frm a r5gt) rs turbo intercooler, hoping to get 120ish bhp?

Boost and fuel Its how you do it without it going bang thats the tricky bit especially with a modern common rail set up ;D

rich mixture with black smoke good!!! hehe hot melty pistons bad! i must admit i am watching some of the tyrbo disel vids & tractor pulling on youtube! some mental engineering for these diesels

Boost and fuel Its how you do it without it going bang thats the tricky bit especially with a modern common rail set up ;D Like the man say, more boost and fuel!!!! Bigger intercooler will improve power and if you want more power and no black smoke, fit the engine with LPG. Nitros oxide can also be used on turbo diesels, but again make sure the fueling is increased at the same time Does anyone know if porting the head on a TD engine nets any gain? EDIT: oh the ultimate basics, i forgot filter cone and a bigger bore exhaust (turbo like less back pressure, boost will come in earlier)

if I recall correctly, turbodiseasel lumps need little silencing...
so more boost, big ic, lots of fuel and minimal exhaust?

so a single box exhaust on a TD is the way to go, so once the air fillter/zaust/boost/intercooler are sorted i spose the n its gotta be a remap or chip of some kind!
xr4i good call with the porting question! if the turbo is in good order & capable of more boost or adjustment of the factory setup then porting should work i'd have thought, the old addage aint it, more air & fuel consumed more bannanas!

diesel tuning is mainly down to common rail and electronic boost control on modern engines where the fuel is injected in a series of "events" to avoid knock and the boost is managed for the same reason .much the same as petrol engines boost will be limited by detonation but obviously diesels can handle more by design hence why chip tuning produces such results on diesels compared to petrol cars i was bored shitless during a delphi seminar but some of it must of sunk in

Some, if not all TDs ( not common rail or HDi )have an extra fuel device on the pump for when they come on boost. I'm told this can be adjusted so the fuel comes in earlier to gain a bit more BHP. A chap who comes in to work had that and a few other bits done to his daily Mundano. Can't remember what else he said, but if I see him I'll ask.
