as title suggests, is this a "more hassle than its worth" type deal or is it quite possible
the vehicle is an old yank, but its on a Q plate. It technically should be tax exempt now and paying over £200 per year for nothing would bug me greatly
I know some old yanks came and were given Q plates (not entirely sure why)
this is a bog standard yank with what appears to be no mods so if its possible what documents would DVLA need do you think
thanks

No, unless you 'ring' it, which is popular in some Land Rover/Mini etc circles (not all before I get flamed).

Surely you need to provide the DVLA with some evidence of the date of manufacture for it to become tax exempt. The Q plate can stay with the vehicle, despite being tax exempt.

It depends is the answer.
It's got a "Q" plate because, when it was registered in the UK, there wasn't sufficient proof of it's build date or identity to give it an age-related number. This could be for many reasons. If it's because it was declared "built from parts" or there was any other doubt about it's originality, then there's no way you'll get the "Q" rescinded. If, however, it was because sufficient documentary evidence didn't exist, or wasn't produced at the time of registering, you can go to the DVLA with more up-to-date info and get them to look again. I had a mate with an ex-army Land-Rover that was on a "Q" because the original owner post MoD lost the release paperwork and couldn't be bothered (or couldn't afford) to get the necessary build data from the factory as he was in a hurry to get it registered and sold. When we subsequently presented the DVLA with a factory letter confirming it was built in 1971 they issued a "K" plate by return of post.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...
