...As per my earlier thread about slamming a Mk3 Zephyr ive decided the next project is gonna be a full blown lowrider project (with all the really hard stuff being done by the pros rather than bodged by me) but on a british car. Gonna invest a ton of money in it getting it bagged and stuff but wanted opinions on WHEELS Now, do i go for the Classic 100spoke wires (chrome or Chrome and gold) or Modern wheels...american racing or such forth as per this.... or something even more different>>??

yeah it might be worth checking the vehicle you wonna do is actually easily juiceable/baggable before you start thinging about things like wheels........
if its british itll probably be leaf spring rear, and to do it right youll need to get rid of that and 3-link it before you can even think about juice or bags.......

What dez said. As for wheels: Ultimate Trad - Supremes: Semi Trad - Cragers: Nineties look - Dayton: China's (made in China rip offs of Dayton rims): You won't get RWD offset wheels on most Brit stuff, though.

its gonna be a Mk3 Zephyr 6....its got the best bonnet/boot balance of the british cars that i know of, plus the little fins for the USA homage. unless you guys know of another car that would be a good base?
The expense thing I'm not worried about...ive decided to scrap certain plans on other things and do this slowly over about a year....so i don't have to worry about budgeting and not getting the quality i want. Ive got the money for the vehicle ready and waiting for the perfect one to turn up.
Really i aint worried about the engine as thats gonna be changed. Its a really tidy body and chassis I'm looking for.

I personally think that a lowrider, if you're building an Chevy or Cadillac (jees, Caddy's are CHEAP!), should wear wires or Supremes. But that's because I'm a bit of a tit. But get what you want, I'm sure it'll look good Oh, before you buy, get a copy of this DVD. It's really interesting: www.rockstargames.com/sundaydriver/Oh, did you know about that kandy-painted Regal for sale for £3.5k? I would personally go for that and finish it off myself. It's already juiced and the body is clean as a whistle.

youve not actually said what type of lowrider you want. i assume a mild custom '60s style?
does a zephyr have a seperate chassis or not? with the age of it id think not? seperate-chassis cars are 1000 times easier to juice/bag. for the amount of re-enfocement needed to get a monoque to not crack and flex with a system, its arguably easier to knock up a 2x4 chassis with suspension designed to take juice/bags, and cut the floor out of the car.
what do you want the car to actually do? do you just want fairly tame, slowish speed, up and down, front-back side-side, with say 6" of lift and be able to lay the sills on the floor? if so go for bags. or do you want massive lift, super quick system, huge rolling 3 wheels and to be able to bounce the front wheels a foot off the floor? if so go juice.
you wont be able to get the chicano look, cos the smallest wires you can get is 13" which look pretty big on a british car, unlike when they're fitted to a 20 foot long impala. one consideration is the bigger the wheels, the more mods youll need to get it to lay out.

Bear in mind wires will be an absolute curse word to keep clean and look totally naff when they start to rust. And painting them's not an option either as they look worse than when rusty The first ones look the nads though!

the plan was just an easy up/down side to side motion....no hopping, just sills on the deck!

i wanted to take a few influences from different styles...bits and bobs, and try fit them together yet keep a british twinge.
Wheel size maybe about 15-17" max Paint either Mainly white with some black or vice-versa (all nice and glossy mind), with maybe something special on the roof.
Gotta be a 60's car for the slightly squarer shapes but still having somes 50's creeping in (fins etc).

budgets about...
3 grand for a MINT Zephyr (or suitable alternative) 2500 for the bags 2500 for the paint 1500 (max) for the rims plus bits and bobs
all together about 10K is the plan

Beware they don't like people spending actual money on cars round this way apparently... I on the other hand applaud a dedication to excellence If you go with a non-wire rim I'd head to the top of your sizing 17" On a car the size of the Zodiac you should be able to pull it off (possibly even an 18") ... If you go wires though I'd stick with traditional 14" If you go modern then something billet (fosse wheels etc.) might be nice to bring in a bit of the modern rod influence without being too over powering.

its maccy strut as well? oh god, you couldnt possibly have picked a worse car to do!!
definate best way in the long run would be a new chassis with twin A-arm on the front. you can convert struts to bags or juice, but its expensive and the finished product wouldnt be a good as swopping the whole front end to twin-A
oh, and to get it to lay out on 17-18" rims would more than likely involve some arch chopping, especially with struts. you may as well just buy a shitter for a few hundred quid, cut out all the arches, floor and suspension then build a good box section chassis with suitable suspension to drop the shell over, then fab a set of wheel tubs and panel the floor in.

Thats not a bad idea,.. if you can get one with sound body but questionable chassis it could well be a good route to go,.. saving a car, and have more money for the chassis re-working in the long run..

Strutted cars can be made to move, bagged cars can be made to move. If it were me with your base car I would do it thus- rims- astro supremes or 13" wires, no question, tucking a stretched tyre into the wheelwell rocks. Keep em clean or get powdercoated parts. the main rust areas on wires are spokes, unless you get daytons and they run stainless. If you want to sit on the deck then strut bag the front, deleaf the rear and run a bag on top of your axle with internal bump stops. Slam Specialies bags are to go for. As for your system, engine driven compressor, 1/2" valves and 2 x 5 gallon tanks. Just my 2p... If you want crazy moves, buy a different car.
