Hi All
This is a very rare and exciting car. Number 42 of only 68 made in right hand drive and according to howmanyleft.com, one of only 24 left currently on the road. As the final iteration of the Renault GTA line with the ultimate 3 litre V6 turbo engine (and pop up headlamps!) this is a pretty desirable car.
I've not had the car long, but I've covered about 1000miles. The car turns heads everywhere, its not often people lean out of a passing car to take pictures of you, but they do in this! It also couldn't really be more '90's - check out the pictures.
Having covered a reasonable distance I can report that the Engine, Gearbox, Suspension and Brakes are all in very good order. The interior is in good shape with no obvious wear on the drivers seat and no sun damage to the dash. The headlining, gear gaiter and rear deck carpeting has all been recently replaced, so these areas are smart. The guy who owned it before me rebuilt the gearbox, and replaced all the rear subframe bushes in the last 5000 miles. The engine pulls strongly, boosts well, gives no smoke and has used no oil in the 1000 miles I've driven. It returns about 30mpg which is more than reasonable for a car like this.
This particular car however is not currently going to win best in show as it stands. Its best described as a usable project/easy restoration. I bought it from the Son of a long established Father and Son Renault specialist garage. He had owned the car for four years during the last two years of which time it had mostly been in storage as part of his collection of interesting old Renaults. Following my purchase the car was recommissioned, fully serviced and MoTd. It passed with only advisories on two very low rear tyres, which have since been changed.
The facts:
127000miles, Long Tax (End June 2015) and MoT (28th June 2015)
Grey Velour interior (with Flying A pattern). Fitted Alpine floor mats.
Spider Alloy wheels. Brand new Bridgestone rear tyres. Good front tyres with plenty tread.
GAZ adjustable coilovers fitted, and in good working order. OE suspension also supplied in good refitable condition.
The vehicle has clearly been thoroughly under sealed from early in its life and as such there is no concerning rust to the chassis or subframes. Both front wheelarches have seen some weld repairs in the past but these look to have been done to a good standard and there is no sign of repeat problems in those areas.
No significant wear on the brake discs and pads all new in the last 1000miles. Recent new caliper also. (All changed prior to the MoT)
All Glass is in good condition.
Bad points:
Paint...... It needs painting. Its certainly not an embarrassment as it stands, but it has peeling lacquer that lets it down. Every panel could be faulted if you wanted to, so this is a candidate for a full respray. Its not required immediately, but to make it a properly smart car again it is certainly needed. The pictures show the condition.
The wheels are in reasonable condition with no kerbing damage, again however they do need repainting as paint has lifted/cracked and some corrosion has begun.
There are also two small areas of body damage. Some small cracking around the right hand side jacking point where someone long ago accidentally lifted in the wrong place. And also a one inch tear in the composite body at the top of the passenger side wheel arch. Both easily fixable before paint. High Res images of issues can be sent on request.
Electrics..... Its a 20 year old French hand built super car, so the electrics have a few problems. Many things have been sorted and it generally boils down to finding the right connector and giving it a good clean up with some contact cleaner.
Remote Central locking is not working (both doors lock and unlock just fine with the key).
Windscreen washers run constantly (so fuse is removed),
Drivers window is slow to raise, although it does go up with a little encouragement.
Trip computer display is dim, though its functions do work if you can read the display from the right angle in dim light, the bulb behind the rev counter is also out so its dim at night.
The car always starts and runs strongly though so the issues are just with the ancillaries.
No AC.
Currently fitted with an atmospheric dump valve, though I have the original re-circ valve that could be easily refitted. Depending on your point of view this could be listed under good points.
It pains me to be selling this car so soon, but 'domestic reasons' are forcing the issue. I always wanted one of these cars and its been fantastic to have even this slightly tatty one this summer. It was my intention to sort the remaining issues and have it painted, but alas thats not going to be able to happen for me..
So, the car comes as it stands, 100% drivable and enjoyable as it is. But with plenty scope for project improvements and adding value.
If you are looking for a perfect example then I would suggest that a car more like this one would be more for you, but check out the prices of a finished one of these..

There was also a Red one like mine, in great condition recently advertised on Piston Heads for £19k, but I think you missed that one.
The car also comes with a soft loose fitting tailored cover and a full set of genuine Renault workshop manuals covering all areas of the car including full detailed wiring information. This shows every loom, its routing and full details of every wire and connector. There is no better collection of information for these cars so the fact its rare and information on the internet less available than for a common old car you can have no fear as every detail is documented. I also recently fitted a new headunit (iPod connection) and to my surprise all 4 speakers even work perfectly.
In short, this car is a very promising easy restoration. With prices of finished cars as seen in the attached link there is plenty room to spend the money required. That was my plan, but I've been told its not happening.
£9000 ONO.
Available to view in High Wycombe evenings and weekends by appointment. don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Let me know if you'd like me to send any high res photos.. no problem.
