Morning Guys
Just a quick one, does anyone know where I can get a set of Trumpet guards (not Filter) for my DCOE 45.
I seem to remember a company advertised in RC mag but I cant find the copy.
Cheers in advance

As in the 'gauze' covered trumpets?

If its for looks then fine, but they are not great for power or for the engine health generally
A decent filter will actually flow more air as the Gauze type are actually quite restrictive

Really?
I have been running the car with just the trumpets, but recently a firend of mine's car desided to swallow a nut (not good), so its been on my mind.
Problem is every car I have heard that has the filter on the Sucking sound (ooohhhh errr) is masked and for some reason I like that noise (not in that way).

You don't want them, they're absolutely ******* useless and bad for not only performance but filtration. A filter sock on an open rampipe is slightly better for performance and does have improved filtration properties. The filter socks I had on my 1850 didn't mask the induction roar much. For optimum performance and filtration, a metal-backed filter assembly and a stubstack, or an enclosed set of open rampipes, is the way to go

I did not realise the gauzes were that bad, the last one I looked at was only a set of 8 wires crossing, so it did not look too restrictive, but I think I will leave that Idea then.
OK where is the best place for the Enclosed ram pipe configuration.

Ah, well if they only had 8 wires crossing they might not be as restrictive but they're still going to do naff all for filtration ;D Even small particles like grit and dirt can take their toll on an engine so it's worth having a good filter system Well K&N do a good range in stubstacks/rampipes and metal-backed filters that fit together nicely Rampipes: Stub stacks: Filter: So that's probably a good place to start ITG and Greenstuff sell similar metal-backed filters as well with suitable backplates for Weber/Dellorto 40/45 I think NeedForSpeed sells all the appropriate stuff, not too hard to locate this stuff - Minispares and Moss probably have it too

look at the edge of the pipe, is the whole purpose of a ram pipe not to smooth the flow into the carb, part of this is acevied by that nice radius on the edge, which on the ones pictured is massivly obstructed (i might be talking rubbish)
as lewis says, its the grit that does the damage, but unless you live in the desert thats not too much of a worry. what about putting foam balls in them when your working on it, that way you wont drop anything in.
careful with foam filters if the engine is not running right; as they have a tendancy to catch fire if it back fires!

Ahh dropping anything in is not really an issue, as the car is sidways on. Really its just to stop cakka getting sucked in while its running. I see what you mean, I think I will go for the socks option they look better TBH.
