I don't really want to sell it, but I'm picking up its replacement this coming weekend so it has to go. I've been using it to get back and forth to work and general day to day use, and it's been excellent. It's big, comfy, fast (ish), gets lots of admiring looks and there ain't many left.
Might as well start with the bad points I guess. It leaks a bit of ATF out of the autobox onto the exhaust, so there's often smoke coming from under the bonnet after a longer run. It's never been a problem for me, I've just kept topping the box up. The lacquer has peeled quite badly in some areas as shown in the pictures. The exhaust is a little noisy, just needs adjusting slightly as it's knocking on the rear trailing arm. The heater fan and heated rear screen don't appear to work but I've never looked into either. The speedo is temperamental and the mileometer hasn't worked for a few years judging by the MOT certificates. It's had a mk2 Carlton petrol tank fitted as the original was full of holes so the petrol gauge reads wrong.
On the plus side, the previous two owners are both good friends of mine and a lot of work has been done. It had a cracked head a few years back, which was replaced with a big valve head off a later goldtop engine. The common problem with the rear exhaust manifold corroding and blowing badly has been sorted by me with a replacement manifold, and believe me when I say it's not a fun job. I've also fitted a set of Monza GSE alloys with excellent tyres all round. It pulls like a train, the temperature gauge never gets higher than the halfway mark and it'll cruise along the motorway all day long. It's even got a decent Philips CD player with USB slot which I'll leave in if I get the asking price. If you're quick it's taxed until the end of this month, and it's got MOT til August next year.
£600 or make me an offer I can't refuse! If you're interested you're more than welcome to come and have a look. It's not perfect but it's damn near 30 years old and I've been using it day to day with no real problems. SA18 area, 10 minutes from the end of the M4.
