Here for sale is my lovely Jaguar Series 2. Whilst the early Series 1 cars are collected more, and the Series 3's seem to be used more, the poor Series 2's seem to be rather forgotten. Why this is I'm not sure, as they are beautiful cars, combining the early chrome bumper looks with more usability and practicality.
This Series 2 is my everyday car, and I'm really sad to be selling it. I use it for everything, and recently completed a 1200 mile round trip to with no problems at all. It keeps up with modern traffic no problem, returns surprisingly good mpg for a car it's age and size, and turns head everywhere!
The bodywork gleams in deep solid black, and although there are some marks and the odd stone chip on most panels, you hardly notice them and it certainly won't need any paintwork unless you want a mint show car. For an everyday driver, it's perfect. There is some surface rust on the underside, and it could benefit from undersealing/treating ASAP. The usual XJ rust areas are all fine, doors/wings/headlamp peaks/radius arm mounts sill etc are all spot on. The wheels needed replacing a few weeks ago, so a set of polished Kent alloys with 4 brand new tyres and new wheel nuts were fitted. These really complete the look of the car. The chrome work is good, not mint, the worst being the rear bumper and over-riders which have pitting on them.
The car runs well, changes gear as it should and handles well. It's recently had new shock absorber bushes, steering rack mounts and gearbox mount so knocks and rattles are kept to a minimum. There is an annoying squeak from a bush somewhere but it's not bad. The exhaust is part stainless and has no blows and sounds nice.
The interior is where this car needs some work. Although the dark red seats/carpets and door cards really compliment the black exterior the seats are from a later XJ40 and the fit on the rears could be better. The electrics are wired in though which is a nice extra. The door cards are a little loose and the headlining sags. It's never really bothered me, and it's not bad at all just need a little fettling to make it spot on. The Momo wheel is not to everyone's taste but does improve the feel. It's easily changed for an original if needed.
What are the bad points...very few if i'm honest. The speedo doesn't work, and neither does the radio. Also the rear windows won't operate. I hope I've not made it sound too bad...I'm sometimes over critical of my cars but want the new owners to be as happy as I have been. I've included a walk around video of the car showing the usual rust spots to show how good it is -
Any questions please don't hesitate to ask, it's taxed and MOT'd and ready to drive away. I'd trust this car to go anywhere.
I'm in Chesterfield, Derbyshire near J29 of the M1. I'll happily take anyone out in the car and have a ack available so you can have a look underneath.
Withdrawn from sale for a while, as it was "politely" pointed out to me that the car has some corrosion on the floor pan on the passenger side, and the drivers side is following it although not holed yet. I don't want to sell a car that isn't right and genuinely didn't know it was there. When you drive a car everyday you don't often have the time to look underneath it, unless you have to!
I'm going to get it all welded up Monday, photos of the underside will be posted when its done.
***EDIT*** Welding now done and back up for sale. All rust cut out and treated, fully undersealed and good to go.
